Wrong coast, but I had to laugh!

My school is a Virginia institution, known for its distance learning program....must be a fairly common scenario.

Learning Addict, a private school doing this number does make me more skeptical. Government-funded ineptitude, I can comprehend....if they are in this 'as a business,'...I would have more doubts about their intentions! (I am a retired gov't employee....mercy, please!)

Well, what a coincidence - I just got an email today from my professor telling all his registered students for this fall's course that "somehow" the school's bookstore got the wrong edition of the textbook and that this has been addressed so that we can get our textbooks "within the next couple of weeks." Classes start on August 28th.

I had checked Amazon.com and noticed that there were identical titles with a newer edition the year after the one in the syllabus the PROFESSOR had provided....and I wondered if he really wanted us to use the older version.

Turns out, he wants the NEWER version, and so it's a darn good thing that I didn't order it back in June when I took the time to email the professor to "get a head start" on Fall....because at that time, he told me to get the older edition....sounds like he caught a little date boo-boo.....

Hope your situation works out somewhat better than this, Learning Addict!

Or probably not......Bookstore listed the books for Fall semester today, and it is the new edition that matches the ISBN I was given like I thought it was. Good thing you get good at coming up with contingency plans and going with your gut feelings when you are a DL student.;)

And the result would be situation dependant. I would have no problem holding the schools "feet to the fire" if I had an e-mail telling me to go ahead and buy a text and it turned out later to be the wrong one.

OTOH, avoiding a potential pissing contest with your instructor and school is always a smart move ;)
