  1. I recently received an evaluation for a MBA/PhD Degree from Cambridge International University http://www.cambridgeinternationaluniv.co.za/. Through their affiliate The American Institute of Business. They have two websites, http://americaninstituteofbusiness.org/html/the_university.html and http://aib4u.org/html/institute.html. The charge for these two degrees would have been $2,900.00.

After emailing the university directly in South Africa, I finally received the following email which I am posting.

After doing some research, I found a striking similarity in the email I received from South Africa, posted above and the WHOIS information posted below for the American Institute of Business. In the email listed above, you will find a reference to a bellsouth.net routing address and the name Nicholas appears. What I would like to know, is the name, Nicholas mentioned along with a reference to bellsouth.net in the email I received today from South Africa, the same person listed in the WHOIS, Admin Email of [email protected] listed below for the American Institute of Business? You be the judge!

I think you answered your own question.

At any rate, this is not a state-run "GAAP" SA university and should not be regarded as wonderful. www.sauvca.org.za/ is the SA University Vice-Chancellors' Association and www.saqa.org.za/ is the SA Qualifications Authority. If a university has no connection to these bodies it should be regarded with substantial caution.

Given the low prices from the state-run SA universities (due to the exchange rate R/$), I'm not sure that there is a good reason to look elsewhere in South Africa, apart from SATS in theology and *perhaps* a couple other schools whose names escape me.

No, there isn't. Why were you interested in them? Perhaps we can help you find a real school that meets your needs!

We've cussed and discussed this Horrid-versity before. http://www.degreeinfo.com/accreditation-discussions-ra-detc-state-approval-unaccredited-schools/20315-diploma-mill-yea-nay.html

There is CIU Malaysia, South Africa, USA and other locations - all lead to the same place - nowhere. If you don't want to study, they'll sell you a degree. Worthless! They even say so - they have to. Here's part of the disclaimer from the US site:

"Cambridge International University is not accredited by an accreditation agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education.."

They should be forced to add : "And not accredited by anything else that counts - anywhere." This monstrosity has "agent schools" in quite a few countries. Move along folks - nothing to see here.

You should really leave the portmanteaus (portmanteaux?) to me.

BTW - I googled the name Ph.D-Cyberspace mentioned and found a linked-in profile. One cannot always be sure if it's the right person - but the one whose info I found listed a "doctorate" in Telecommunications from the "University of Devonshire." There is no real "University of Devonshire." It is one of over 30 DEGREE MILLS invented by the perpetrators of the the infamous "University Degree Program" scam a few years ago.

Why? Just because you're pretty good at them, do you have a monopoly or something?

    Johann

BTW - In English usage - either plural is correct.

For those not familiar with the "University Degree Program" scam I mentioned (and that's OK - it was a few years back) here's the story in a nutshell.

University Degree Program - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You'll see "University of Devonshire" mentioned among the degree mills invented by this crew. I'm sure we have numerous UDP threads from back in the day.

Since degree mills look like the real thing at first glance but can't really deliver, perhaps they should be called "eunuchversities".
