Folks I found this website on the internet. They offer some inexpensive courses on homeland security, security management, etc. I have a professor who is certified through this agency. I don't know much about this organization if anyone knows please enlighten me.

The CHS program is relatively new and has received some criticism in the emergency management community. The "certification" consists of you sending a resume in, taking ACFEI's own courses and passing their own exams. IMO, it is lacking the foundation of true professional certification in that there is no professional contributions requirement and no requirement that one actually has substantial experience in the field of homeland security.

With that being said, the ACFEI is a legitimate org. I would be interested in the CHS certification if only to supplement other more recognized credentials such as the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM). With the growth in the HS field, I am sure at some point the CHS will become a more recognized credential.

I was not impress by the website. Most classes were way over priced. With all the free courses out there (most non-college), I see no reason to buy courses. There are hundreds of free online courses and dozens of free live classes out there on homeland security, security management, etc. I have completed hundreds of these myself.

I spent the day at the Ohio Emergency Management Agency in Columbus, Ohio. To a person all the country emergency management people, police, and military members in attendance were only concerned with getting the free courses that would get them the Advanced Professional Series (APS) certification from FEMA. Most in the class had promotion and pay raises tied to these particular courses and were even paid to be there.

The Department of Homeland Security wants people getting the FEMA courses and those in the catalog below, most of which are free.

If there is an interest, I will start a thread and provide links to many of these free homeland security, non-college courses.

I've taken a lot of the ICS courses through FEMA myself as well. I'm in the National Guard so our local command is trying to get a lot of folks trained in the ICS system. I merely came across this particular organization while web searching and was looking for opinions and perspectives, which I appreciate.

Please do. I have been compiling a list myself and a few months ago had it sent out to my office (I'm in Federal Law Enforcement). I've completed over 160 of these certificate courses myself and am always looking for more.

The parent organization began life as ACFE, the American College of Forensic Examiners. It later morphed into ACFEI, the American College of Forensic Examiners International. Initially all one did was send a check and CV for certification. Dr. Robert O'Block, the founder of ACFEI, has founded a number of organizations although specifics of previous employment now seem hard to come by. It appears the organization has attempted to legitimatize itself, even having Dr. Henry Lee as a keynote speaker at one of it's conferences. However old-timers in the forensic profession may still look questionably upon any ACFEI certification.

This is not to be confused with ACFE (acfe.com), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Some early articles of interest. The really juicy ones I can no longer find online.

Refugee I would like to see a copy of your list. While the number of courses of I have located and completed is extensive, I might still have missed something.
