    All,

I'm trying to find a cheap, yet accredited program for my wife. I've been looking at various Independent Study programs all day and found one through Upper Iowa University that may work.

She wants something she can work on and do on her own time and complete a certificate or A.S. in Human Resources and/or Business. She hates online classes and discussion question requirements.

If you know of any please let me know...I appreciate any feedback. We prefer regional accredidation but national will work if the cost is right.

She could always take Straighterline courses for her first 30 credits for only $999, CLEP exams for the next 27 credits, and then take the one Cornerstone Course from Charter Oak State College to graduate. If she did this, she could probably graduate for no more than $3,000.

If DETC is okay then Penn-Foster or Ashworth are very cheap and self-paced.

Penn Foster is probably the better of the two because a lot of its courses are ACE approved so they can transfer to many RA schools. It's amazing how inexpensive these two schools are. For something like 70-80 per credit you get books and a monthly payment plan instead of having to use financial aid. Moreover, you can continue on to a bachelor's degrees at both places. At the associate's level there are quite a few degrees to choose from. You can literally start studying within a few moments at Penn-Foster with a dollar down payment. You can really graduate from these schools debt free and without ever coming up with a lot of money at any one time.

Of course, the courses are canned and you don't get much interaction, but you do get quality, consistent material and an accredited degree for cheap and at your own pace.

I have RA degrees, but if I could go back I'd have gone this route and not had student loan debt. No one in my field knows the difference between RA and NA anyway.

She could do an Associates with a Business concentration this way, but not one with a specific HR concentration. On the other hand, I believe she could do this entirely with CLEP, and not use StraighterLine at all. (Not knocking StraighterLine, just saying it's possible.)
