Hello Everyone, Glad to have found this resource. I'm currently doing working toward my first few CLEP tests. INTRO to Sociology & Analyzing Literature, etc. My current goal: Work towards credits for a BA in Social Sciences from TESC. We'll see if anything changes along the wayI've got some of the REA books and plan to use the flashcards with INSTANT CERT. any other ideas will be great. Can anybody tell me some ideas for an ONLINE course in MIDDLE EAST history? Thanks, TAL
American Military University www.apus.edu offers a very wide variety of history courses, both undergraduate and graduate. And HIST 350: Middle Eastern History happens to be one of them.
Welcome! That's the program I completed too! I didn't take a Middle Eastern course though, but I'm sure Ted's link will pull up a good one. Good luck and welcome!
APU actually has a "Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies": http://www.apu.apus.edu/academic/programs/degree/1257/bachelor-of-arts-in-middle-eastern-studies This includes courses like "History of the Middle East" and "Middle Eastern Culture". APU does allow students to take courses without being registered for a degree: http://www.apu.apus.edu/admission/faq/#Can_I_take_just_a_course_or_two_at_APU However make sure before you enroll in a course that you'll be able to use it towards your degree at TESC; fpr example, the Middle Eastern Culture course's code is "IRLS260" (not HIST###) so it may not be usable if you needed a history course.
Thanks... so much, I went to APU, it doesn't give much info as far as how many credits and syllabus, etc. I guess it's still a standard college course?
It is there is you search enough: Here is syllabus (unless you were looking for more detail): http://www.amu.apus.edu/academic/schedule/course/HIST350 Courses are all 3 semester units unless otherwise specified. Here is a DSST exam that includes ME history http://www.getcollegecredit.com/downloads/factsheets/Intro%20to%20Modern%20Middle%20East.pdf DSST has other related exams. There are several courses here http://www.cvc.edu/students/courses/?q=middle+east°ree=ALL&subject=ALL&segment=ALL&school=ALL&delivery=ALL&term=ALL&type=search
According to their website, the Jewish Theological Seminary (TTS) — Kaminer Center for Distance Learning offers a wide variety of Middle Eastern studies (bachelorette thru terminal degrees). They are accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is chartered by the Regents of the State of New York http://www.jtsa.edu/x1386.xml?ID_NUM=100064
If you're still interested in Middle Eastern History when you get to the graduate level, the Humanities External Degree Program of California State University Dominguez Hills www.csudh.edu offers HUX 579: The Arab World and HUX 581: The Ancient Near East.
Washington State University's www.wsu.edu online BA in Social Science offers HIST 472: The Middle East Since World War I.
