I plan to wrap up my BA from Excelsior by the end of this year. After that, my plans for a graduate degree involve getting a MS in Marketing from Ashworth College. I know some might be asking why I would get a NA degree after getting a BA from an RA school, but here is my reasoning:

Cost - huge factor. I can make monthly payments at Ashworth, and I'm not going into debt.
Degree - I don't necessarily need or want an MBA, but I am interested in a MS in Marketing, and there don't seem to be many DL MS in Marketing programs in the US.
Curriculum - The curriculum for the MS in Marketing program is exactly what I am looking for in a graduate degree.

I don't need to get licensed in anything, and most of the jobs I would be interested in down the road only require a bachelor degree. A degree from Ashworth should fit my future needs.

Way to go. Making a decision on which school is sometimes the most difficult part!

Hi Terry - Congratulations on having (almost) earned your Bachelors. As for the RA v. NA issue, I think that we've heard a similar analysis from a number of people over recent years. To me it seems like the AACSB v. non-AACSB debate. There may be some difference but that difference simply may not be relevant to a particular person. As long as a person has done their homework and understands the differences then I don't see where there is a problem. I hope that you're able to catch some vacation time this summer before the start of your new program.

Somebody on the board made a decision? OMG!?!? Sounds like a well thought out plan. Congrats.

Here's too not having buyers remorse or changing your mind in two weeks:

Sounds good to me -- the skills you want to learn at the price you want to pay. Good luck!

Congratulations on your choice. Maybe you can start a blog on your Ashworth masters experience. I always enjoyed reading your PF blog on elearners.

Dunno if they have marketing degrees, but Bellevue and APU have payment programs in the RA realm.

In the NA scheme of things, CalCoast also has a payment program-- but I didn't look to see if they have marketing programs.

It's not an MBA, although Ashworth does offer an MBA in Marketing. I'm opting for the MS in Marketing, which has the courses I want and none of the courses I don't.

Bellevue has some interesting programs, but I'm not interested in paying $420 per credit hour. California Coast has an MBA in Marketing and the price is right. If they had a MS in Marketing I may have gone with them.

Could not agree more - I went with the BS/MBA combo meal deal from CCU for something like $3500.

At one point, I had put Ashworth on the list for my future MBA given that it seems largely self-paced. The NA thing put me off, but it's still a good option for many folks.

For me, the MS in Marketing from Ashworth will be my terminal degree. I'm not going to study for a doctorate or anything, and I don't need to get licensed in my profession. An NA degree will work just fine for my needs.

One day I may get a MA in History and teach history at the community college level or online, but that's years in the future and I'll probably go to AMU for that.

Well, for all my whining about NA, I'm starting to consider it. Ashworth, CalCoast, CalSouthern and a few others seem pretty good about providing self-paced programs. I'm starting to contemplate a master's from one of them just to get the letters and get it over with, then I can go for a terminal degree from an RA program later if I like. We'll see-- I have a few more months left to bounce this around.

Yeah, prior to completing my NA degrees, I researched long and hard, with the help of this great community (Thanks to all). When I factored in the flexible payment schedules with no interest, my mind was made up. I have paid for all my studies out of pocket, and I had/have no desire to end up in debt over education. I have the initials after my name, and I am getting well paying side gigs in addition to my full time job.

Regardess of the NA/RA issue, I really like the MBA title because it holds instant recognition (over the years, degree brand, etc. People are very familiar with the term.

    Have a good weekend broheim!
