Hi Jen (and Pauline) - This is a bit of a grey area. The TOS specifies that members may not advertise. If an existing member chooses to include a link to their degree program then we let that go because it seems to be a way for others to learn more about that school/program. If, however, a new member creates links to businesses, etc, and this is not directly related to distance learning then I typically eliminate the advertising while allowing the newbie to continue their membership. It's surprising how few new members (who fit into this category) choose to be involved in the forum after their sig line is erased. Hopefully pauline will break the mold.
