Just went full time at one of my jobs and it is pretty much going to be 45-50 hours a week. Plus the hours are going to be kinda wonky. r I guess I am not happy because I really just want a 40hour monday-friday dayshift job. Just curious how many hours the rest of you full time employees wok.
50-70 depending on the week and I work 5, often 6, and at times 7 days a week. 45-50 is like a part-time job. Oh, plus I teach online - 3 hours a day!
Contratulations! I didn't realize that you have found a teaching gig. Good for you! For the most part I work 45 - 50 hours a week. The only exception is when there is a push due to a conference or making a deadline. Then I might work 60+ hours in a week.
My first three years at my current company - around 55 a week. My high at 79.5 hours for one week, and 28 hours straight another week - minus a 30 min nap under my desk. One might work 9 - 6PM then 9-10:30PM and then 12:15 - 1AM then 5 - 5:45 AM... and then be expected to come back into work the next morning. : ) FYI - I was doing web infrastructure support. The job was great, you learned a lot, but don't expect a healthy lifestyle. It was fun for awhile and a little seasoning never hurt anyone. I was doing my MBA then. Now I work around 45 a week, and I am still a full time grad student (soon to be done).
At Southeastern, I work 9-6 weekdays except 10-7 on Wednesdays. I also work every third Saturday 10-2, and after doing that twice take off a weekday to make up for it. When I was at Keiser I worked 12-8 Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and 8-5 Wednesdays and Fridays. Having a family and being a fulltime student, I wouldn't be able to work longer hours than that. Besides, I think that absent special circumstances, if you're working 70 hours a week and don't get overtime, you're getting seriously ripped off. -=Steve=-
Wow.. so what you guys are saying is this is just normal work life. I have been underemployed for 4 years. My last two jobs were 8-430 with a half an hour unpaid lunch break.
0800 to 1630- Sounds like a Federal Employee (that's my same 'official' Federal schedule too.) However, we must come in an hour before and stay a couple of hours afterwards off-the-clock/weekends to conduct other tasks for the department. I really don't know of anyone of my friends/neighbors/coworkers who's ever worked a '40 hour work week'; even the exempt employees work more than forty hours and get 'comp time'. 40 hours-would be sweet! 55 hrs/week is the average for our Federal department. Let's see... 50 per week is about it. But I telecommute 2-3 days a week so that helps. The time I would spend commuting I work (and sleep) and put in some hours at night and on weekend. Plus I teach online at night. This is my first quarter teaching so I'm putting in a lot of hours writing my syllabus and course work but I think it will be 5-10 hours a week after this first class, assuming I teach the same class for the same college. I may even be able to teach two classes at a time.
I work 40 hours a week; however, my past jobs required more hours. Just be glad that you are full-time.
True! 40 hours a week is fine with me. Work is necessary, however, I have time left over to do the truly important things in life. Abner
About 7-8 hours of work. I am there 40 hours a week minimum, but I really only put in about seven hours of real work a week in the aggregate.
I used to work 50-55 hours a week but I spent about 80% of teh time traveling...I would harding consider that "work". Now I got promoted and am working a lot more actual work time.
I work m t w f 8-5 with no breaks or lunch hours. I am a Nurse so no way do I get those. I come in early when I can so sometimes 730 am and a lot of days I don't get to leave until 6 or so. Long day with NO lunch break or few minute breaks in there. Because of that, I work 1/2 day on Thursdays. HOWEVER, many days, I don't get to leave until 2 or 3 because we are so busy! And on top of that, back in school, have 2 kids in sports and school functions and my huband and I both play softball and volleyball. I am hardly home and always on the go. But my work stays in my head of what I need to do and what I have to work on the next day. It's hard!
