Hi, I just received my BS in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College. How does one list that on a resume? I know there are Excelsior grads on this list. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Faye
Hi Faye, I list mine as follows: The University Of The State Of New York Formerly Regents College, Now Known As Excelsior College Albany, New York Liberal Arts With Emphasis On Biological Sciences Bachelor Of Arts Degree 1989 Regents, when it became Excelsior, sent me information on how to now list the credential. The above is pretty much it. Of course you need not do all of that since it was Excelsior that awarded your degree. So maybe something like: Excelsior College Albany, New York Liberal Arts (studies) with emphasis.......or just Liberal Arts (studies)? Bachelor Of Arts Degree 2002 Hope it helps. Good luck! PCap
I took two bachelor's degrees from the Regents External Degree Program when it was run by USNY. I list them: Bachelor of Science, Business University of the State of New York Bachelor of Arts, Sociology University of the State of New York I have no desire to try to link USNY with REDP with Regents College with Excelsior. That only invites confusion. It never comes up, no one cares, and the only comment I've ever received is the inevitable (and incorrect) "Oh, SUNY." (There's a SUNY in Albany.) Even trying to clarify that you took your degree from USNY, not SUNY, is a losing battle not worth fighting. Trying to explain the evolution from USNY/REDP to Excelsior is impossible. Don't do it. (My second bachelor's is a BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Sociology. There is an academic difference between majoring in a subject and having a concentration in it, I realize. But again, it's just not worth the trouble to clarify it; it only creates more questions. I guess I'll have to face it all over again with the Union Ph.D. but, again, I'm sure no one will ask and no one will care. I'll list it as a Ph.D. in Higher Education.)
Hey Rich, Listing it your way is better! I'm going to change my CV. You're correct of course, everyone thinks it's SUNY blah blah blah... BTW I received, and took, an offer from Excelsior College last month to receive, for a fee, a certificate declaring that I earned my degree from USNY before the change to Excelsior. I should receive it soon. It's only for graduates who graduated prior to 1999 or 2000 or something. What is intriguing is that it is an Excelsior credential essentially recognizing your course of study through USNY. It appears to me almost like an honorary Bachelors degree from Excelsior. Weird but very attractive with dark lavender boarder and wood frame etc.Certainly others on the board are aware of this but I'll quote the certificate verbatum once it is in hand. It is I think a thirty year celebration option or something. Cheers PCap
Thanks for all the suggestions. I think the brief, without elaboration a good point. My concentration was history and psychology. Looks kind of weird. But, I'm now starting to pursue the Masters in library/information studies so that will take precedence when/if! I receive it. This forum has been a lifesaver for me. Thanks to all of you again. Faye
