    Yes, it's real. I used to think it meant spy-work to scope out what the competition is doing. :) Well, there's that too, but I think it has a different name - Corporate Espionage or something. . Business Intelligence is extensively defined and an overview given in the article cited below. The article is free.     Ten years ago Business Intelligence (BI) was the hot techie buzz words now we call the same thing Business Analytics or Data Analytics. Ten years ago SAS, Cognos and Crystal Reports (Business Objects) were the top BI tools whereas today its Tableau, Alteryx, R and Python. I'm sure ten years from now we'll be calling this same space some new hot techie word like Business Knowledge (just kidding).

    With regards to Villanova's progam I'm not sure it's worth the extra effort earn the CPBI certification they are offering (just earning the certificate is probably good enough for most folks looking to get into this space).
