If you're interested in learning more about the Harvard Extension School (or you're just curious), HES posted a recent information session here - 2012 Harvard Extension School Information Session - YouTube
Thanks Balios. I was surprised when Dr Leitner spoke of the cost of an ALB and an ALM, $32K and $20-25K respectively. Thats better than many state and for-profit schools. I believe mcjon77 is reading for an ALM in IT, I wonder who else on degreeinfo is in the ALB or ALM programs.
Word is that many admitted students receive need based aid that covers about half the cost of tuition. HES is also rather generous in accepting transfer credit up to about 64 credits (contrary to the standard at HC). They will take three CLEP exams for 4 credits each up to 12 credits. It can be a very affordable option, and the residency requirement adds to the allure IMO.
The tuition is great. To put it in perspective, I was considering two other schools, University of Chicago and Northwestern, both of which have very similar programs available. My HES courses are $1950 each. Northwestern is $4.340 each PLUS $115 extra if you are taking the course online. University of Chicago courses are $4,640 each. I did the math, even with flying out to Cambridge from Chicago every week one semester for my capstone course, it is still $20K less than Northwestern and $15K less than UChicago. Since I am paying for my degree out of my own pocket, and don't want to take any loans, this is a major plus. It turns out that I am interested in some other residential classes, so I will, in all likelihood, be commuting for two semesters. That is STILL significantly less than its competitors.
