Last we heard, Professor Leonard van der Walt, Ph.D, MBA, DMS (Postgrad.),
CM (Postgrad.), BBA (Econ.), BA (Com.), CRTM, had joined Professor John S. Dovelos, Ph.D. in his new venture, the University College of Advanced Studies, a St. Regis University approved Qualified Independent School (QIS). Currently, the Web site for the University College of Advanced Studies appears to be inoperative. Is he no longer affiliated with that venture as well?

I've adjusted Len's account, so he should be good to go.

Here's to hoping that he has learned from his SRU stint.

    poof, it's off the air

Its domain is still registered, but the University College of Advanced Studies server isn't serving anything to anybody right now.

The site's meta keywords were these: Online studies, Online degree programs, online studies, psychotherapy, business studies, Hypnotherapy degrees, Hypnotherapy programs, Accredited college, Accredited university, Accredited degrees, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy degree, hypnotherapy programs.

Lotsa non-invasive brain surgery, but not much else in the site keys. Maybe a little Zombie's Cucumber fell into the virtual faculty coffee pot and imploded the place.

Re: now you see him, now you don't

I am no longer part of SRU's faculty, as per my own request to them, and due to my own personal reasons, which I would like to keep personal and not venture into here on this forum. I made a lot of very good friends at SRU and would not like to spoil that.

    Looking forward to chatting again.

I have withdrawn from UCAS, also for personal reasons.

    Welcome back, Len!

Can you tell us if you still list your SRU Ph.D. (or any other doctorate) on your CV?

And do I remember correctly that at one point you had obtained an academic appointment in South Africa on the strength of your Ph.D.? Are you still in academia at all, or are you now entirely in the private sector?

    Hi Mark,

My degree with SRU is accredited and recognised by the MoE as well as the Commission for Higher Education in Liberia, and as such I am happy to list it on my CV. I worked for it by doing the necessary proposals, research and writing of my dissertation, and I am not ashamed of it. As in the case of any other qualifications, it is the prerogative of the receiver of one's CV to either accept or reject my PhD.

And no, I only have one doctorate!

A point of clarification - I never obtained an academic appointment of any kind in South Africa; I have always been with my current full-time employer. However, I was a part-time lecturer at the institution in South Africa through whom I was doing my MBA at that time; in my final year and after having obtained my Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Studies though them, I lectured Marketing to the first year MBA students in Zambia at the same institution's Zambian workshops on a part-time basis. For clarity sake, this institution is fully recognised by SAQA (South Africa Qualifications Authority).

Trust this puts things into perspective.

Regards from a very hot and humid Tanzania.

    Len.

  10. Welcome back Len...

    Len,
It is good to see you back here. As others have commented, although the general consensus on this board may not agree with you, your demeanor has always been civil and you have a right to your opinions and beliefs. I, for one, am very glad to have you back, and hopefully will hear from you from time to time regarding the ongoing discussion of what on earth is going on with SRU. To your credit, you apparently have realized that the administrative team there did not play fairly with you and was not honest in their dealings with you, or any of the other "graduates" of the institution.

I've mentioned a good friend I have who has access to the SRU discussion board. She's not an "enemy" of SRU, but wisely never chose to use her "degree", and follows the institution more from a personal interest standpoint. She's come to the conclusion that this is all just a bunch of fakery and con artist behavior of the worst kind. She mentioned to me that you had recently posted there and had expressed extreme dissatisfaction as well as challenges to SRU admin that were not discussed in public on the board. I assume those challenges are behind your reason to leave the institution.

In any case, it is good that you "wised up". However, I would advise you to continue on this track and get yourself to the stage where you also realize that the SRU degree is meaningless, not because of what you did or didn't do to "earn it" (which may have been substantial and of good quality), but because the institution itself is a sham and a fraud and is a blight on all that is good about education in general.

Thanks for listening to this opinion - we look forward to hearing more of yours.
    - Carl

I remember that last time Len was here, (welcome back!) he argued that SRU's questionable behavior was in the past. I think we've seen that it is not so easy for a leopard to change his spots?

The word "employer" may be misleading, because it implies a net transfer of money from the employer to the employee. As I understand it, non-Liberian SRU professors paid SRU a fee and designed courses to obtain their professorship. When a student takes one of those courses, the professor receives a commission. But since nearly all SRU "students" opt for the "fast track" rather than the courses, I doubt any professor has received enough money in commissions to recover the fee he paid.
