I was hoping for some advice. I have no college experience yet. My goal is to become a cancer registrar.

Technically, the only requirement is an associate's degree and the certification. But most of the jobs I see listed require a bachelor's degree. I am leaning toward a bachelor's, but I am a little nervous about tuition.

I've been leaning toward Western Governor's University. I only have a GED, I see a lot of online universities only accept high school diplomas.

Why not start with the Associates and just see how it goes? You can always continue on to the Bachelors if you like it and if it's necessary. As for WGU, just apply. You'll be fine. If you're nervous just take one course as a kind of sampler. This will give you a sense of the degree of difficulty, how much time is required, etc. Don't get "analysis paralysis." Just start.

You'll have to take that one course at another school because WGU does not offer individual courses.

WGU will require experience or an associates in IT, business administration, or an allied health field for admission.

Fortunately someone here knows what they're talking about. But he doesn't need those credentials to apply to the Associates program, does he? And if enrolled he could begin by taking just one course, no?

WGU does not have associates degree programs. The easiest way to get into their program is to either earn an accepted IT certification or to earn an associates in business administration. The good thing about getting the associates first is that WGU does block transfers. If you have an associates, you've met all the general education requirements for the BS.

I am sorry, I should have stated in the OP that my local community college offers an Associate's in Health IT. I think that's my first step. Thank you guys for the help. I don't have any close family members or friends who have gone to college, so I feel pretty lost with all of this stuff.
