I think I saw in a previous post that a couple people were going to take it on the 7th. If you did, what material(s) did you use to study, how long did it take you, and did you do well?

    Hi Randy,
I took the test yesterday, and was glad I studied more than the study guides (such as princeton, it was helpful though.)
I read two introductory psych 101 type textbooks, various outlines in specific subjects found on some textbook sites, the princeton 'cracking the gre psych" review book, and a stat primer book (cliffs quick review.)
I have leisurely read about psychology for a while, but I studied seriously for about a month and a half (although I have a tv, I haven't been motivated to begin any cable or satellite services.)
'Did I do well?' Well, I hope I did. :D Seriously, I feel pretty confident of scoring above the 80th percentile, how much above that is something I will find out in about a month.

I took it some time ago, and used the Barron's and the princeton review as well as intro textbook. A couple of tips:

    1) The Princeton Review was the best, most easily digestible guide for me.

    2) Don't get caught up in your weakest or strongest area--just look at what the majority of the test covers. I didn't know naything about stats at the time, but it's a small section, so just know mean median mode, frquecy and sd and you'll be fine.

    3) Give yourself at least a couple of weeks to digest it all.

I did fairly well--660, which was 85th percentile at the time, but has since fallen to 78th. I suspect this is due to most programs dropping it as a requirement and only good test takers choosing to take it. Also, the economic downturn and subsequent flight to grad school might have something to do with it.

I took it about two years ago. I prepared for about two months or slightly less. I read my college general psychology textbook, a social psych book, a history of psych book and a lot of a perception one. I used the guides mentioned and also felt the sample test with the booklet was one of the most helpful things. I scored 760 about 98th percentile, but got rejected from the school psych phd program I wanted. Good luck.
