I am interested in finding a single course, or possibly, a certificate program in grant writing. Has anyone seen or taken such a course? Any help would be appreciated.

I completed a grant proposal certificate program last semester at Fort Hays State University. It consisted of two courses and one internship. It's taught by Dr. Keith Campbell. He was an excellent teacher, very thorough and interested in helping you learn.

Info about the certificate program and courses can be found here. (Scroll down a bit.)

If you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to answer them.

In my experience, these sorts of "courses" are offered through continuing education departments in most major universities. Depending on the level of intensity desired, they are typically one or two day seminars. I've gone through such a course, a one day seminar offered through my graduate school (Social Work). I'd suggest that you contact the Continuing Education Department of the university closest to you. If you are already a good writer I'd suggest that you could "buy the book" and give yourself the course. I think that, like any sort of writing, it benefits from exposure to a knowledgable, experienced editor. If you're actually interested in writing grant proposals, it's perhaps more important to find a reader who can make constructive criticisms than it is to receive lots of instruction up front. Good luck,

I currently pay my rent by grant writing. While a degree is helpful, they're more interested in past results. This is definitely a field where experience pays. I would suggest getting a book about it (there are hundreds available) then find a non-profit company that needs a volunteer to help out. Write your ass off, get them to a better place, and start to build yourself a portfolio. You can make a lot of money doing it after awhile if you're good at it.
