The Cheyenne Herald wrote an article about this. They interviewed Grand Canyon and IIRC it was basically denied that many credits would be accepted. http://www.cheyenneherald.com/_pdf/2009/August%202009/Grand%20Canyon%20University.pdf

For some schools, granting transfer credits, credit for experiential learning, military credits, etc. are a form of scholarship, lowering the cost of a degree (and time-to-completion), making it more attractive.

GCU might have settled on granting credit for a limited number of WNU credits, or it may have evaluated some WNU courses and decided to grant credits. Or, perhaps, it wants access to what must be an enormous student/graduate database. Who really knows, except GCU?

each institution is responsible for developing their credit transfer standards (i.e what they will and will not accept). If GCU accepts some of WNU's credits you can request in writing what their criteria is for accepting said credits. Since the gentleman from GCU who is responsible for that posted on here I would recommend contacting him directly.

    Warren National University

I worked hard for my Warren National University Degree in Management and Leadership. They did give me some credit for life experience. However, I have also been in my chosen profession 20 years and had completed 30 credits of a 42 credit masters in social work program. If Grand Canyon University accepts credits for courses completed by students at WNU they are not giving them anything they did not earn.

Now if I could find out how to get a transcript for the work I completed from Warren National University I would be very happy.

    WNU transcript

I have been reading this forum and am sorry about WNU losing it's accreditation process. When I retired, i decided to finish mt BS in Health and decided on K-W. The name got changed to WNU and I got my diploma in 2007. The experience, I assumed was taken into considerstion for my degree. Since then I have worked in clinical research in emergency medicine. I had filled out my application for the . position and was never asked about it. I have been lead research person on 4 major clinical research projects, 2 federally funded and 2 privately funded and am on a research committee at the university where I work. I am also a co-Principle Investigator on one federally funded project now for the next 2 yrs. We are trying to get a study now started with a previous sponsor and will cover almost 20 sites, some out of country.
I feel like you should focus on what was academically learned at WNU instead of the process of authenticity. I have just started to get my national certification in research and thought I would seek a Masters in a related field as a private company has contacted me to do some projects for them. I hope GCU can fulfill this vision.
I would really like to find out if WNU is granting transcript requst. I have found an address, but if anyone has any more idea about this, please post

    Thanks

I just saw this article on the Internet that Preston University is willing to act as registrar of records and issue transcripts to alumni and former students of Warren National University / Kennedy-Western? (http://www.cheyenneherald.com/_pdf/February%202009/wnuedu.pdf). Can anyone verify this?

I also want to know if we can still list the diploma that we gained from WNU on or resume or CV now that the school is closed?? Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks.

I've heard that the agreement between WNU and PU (get it?) has been severed, however you could always email them, at [email protected].

I personally wouldn't list the WNU diploma on a resume, as it may be illegal in your state to do so, and otherwise the unaccredited education may automatically disqualify you from job candidacy. If you have no other higher ed, and the job requires a BS/BA, you could always roll the dice, and hope it flies under the radar. As for being closed, schools close all the time, it is a part of life. As long as someone could validate it as being state licensed for a while, you may be okay.

In Oregon one must note degrees from unaccredited schools as such when listing them on a resume or similar communication. Perhaps there are a few other states that also require this, but if so I'm not sure what they are. I'm not aware of any that actually forbid listing unaccredited qualifications on a resume.

    In Texas:

The Texas Penal Code (Section 32.52) prohibits the use of fraudulent or substandard degrees "in a written or oral advertisement or other promotion of a business; or with the intent to: obtain employment; obtain a license or certificate to practice a trade, profession, or occupation; obtain a promotion, a compensation or other benefit, or an increase in compensation or other benefit, in employment or in the practice of a trade, profession, or occupation; obtain admission to an educational program in this state; or gain a position in government with authority over another person, regardless of whether the actor receives compensation for the position." Violation of this law is a Class B misdemeanor.

THECB - Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas

And yes, our good friends at KWU / WNU are on the list.

That suggests that even degrees from state licensed schools that are on the up and up, even that are in the accreditation process, are point blank illegal to use in Texas. I've written the Texas CB to ask for clarification.

(I suppose if there were a state with a policy that ridiculous it would be Texas, which until fairly recently didn't even recognize DETC as a real accreditor.)

If I were you and the former WNU student, I would begin working on degrees from an accredited university and not list KWU/WNU on your resume. The history is bad and why tarnish your reputations? It is up to you but it is not advisable.

A social work degree from Warren National would most certainly not meet CSWE requirements and therefore would be almost useless. Pretty much every position I've seen that requires a social work degree requires that it be from a CSWE-recognized school.

I concur with Garp. Anyone with a Warren National degree or credits should simply take their lumps and start over somewhere else. ANd I'd be really concerned about the future viability of any school that publicly admits they'd accept credits from Warren National.

How does having the school open or closed make a difference? You can list anything you want on a resume. The question is - will it help or hurt. If I received a resume with Warren on it I would see it as a red flag. What other credentials do you have?

Oh yes, it was sweet when they had to change their ass backward policy. Being very familiar with the Texas CB, I can tell you that their reponse will be "the policy is the policy". They only seem to respond to legal challenges.

In Cali, SA degrees are approved for benefits like TAA (aka TRA), NAFTA, and other state approved training programs designed to help workers who lost their jobs due to the company moving or outsourcing overseas.
