Getting credit for training classes

I've been taking classes and tests here and there for years toward a BA. Lately studying is a huge struggle. I got a new boss last year and he has ramped up my responsibility big time. So I'm learning a lot, just not in an academic context.

I have taken or will take classes in fund raising, volunteer management, nonprofit management; I supervise a whole passel of volunteers, go to conferences, host a radio show (!). And here's one that's just for fun--I'm taking a video documentary class. I've had bit parts in three indie movies and been a judge for a teen filmmakers competition. That's got to count for something. So I now think my best bet for completion (I have about 96 hours, 6 UL) would be to get portfolio credit and an individualized concentration at COSC.

My question is: what kind of records should I be keeping now that will help prepare my portfolio later?

You might find this portfolio assessment information from Thomas Edison State College (TESC) useful in documenting your experience.

    June,

Since you already have 96 credits, it might be faster to just take CLEPS/DANTES/ECE and/or TECEP exams. Depending on where you enroll, you might be able to wrap up that degree with 8 or so tests (which could be accomplished in a week or two if you apply yourself). From what I've heard and read, the PLA process can take quite a while.

TESC is quite liberal in their UL requirements. Actually, I'm not sure that they even require any UL courses for their BA in Liberal Studies. Someone else on here could confirm this, or just give them a ring. I'm not too crazy about COSC though. It appears from viewing info on their website, that one has to jump through a lot of hoops to obtain a degree. Try Excelsior or TESC.

    Good luck!

This is true. There is a requirement for courses above the 100 level (200 is fine).
