    GAAP?

I have a qestion which, I suspect, is easily answered on this board. The board's search engine just gives me too many hits to wade through and Google hasn't proven helpful.

What does GAAP mean in the context of degree-granting authority? I have seen comments on this board several times to the effect that ". . . this is a GAAP school." It usually seems to come up in the context of the school's authenticity and usually about a UK school or school from the old Commonwealth (South Africa, Australia).

    What is a GAAP school?

    Which are the GAAP schools?

The only definition of this acronym I've ever seen is "Generally Accepted Accounting Principles." Is this what is being referred to? How does this dovetail with the idea of legitimacy or authenticity of higher (tertiary) educational institutions.

If this is the meaning of the acronym, does the usage only apply to business schools? To entire universities? How so?

    Thanks for your help.

    :)

    "Generally Accepted Accreditation Principles"

It means schools that have recognition comparable to U.S. accreditatation. For more information, please search the threads of this board.

    Rich:

    Thanks.

Your response sent me back to the search engine. This time, I searched under titles only and there it was. Clear and crisp.

    I appreciate your help.

    ;)
