I found the Free University Project today. The website says the mission is to:
Has anyone here ever used the study materials available here? Can anyone comment on the quality?

    Sean,
Yes, I've spent a few hours on the links from that website. The site is great and most of the list are still alive. The problem I had was that the amount of information for a given topic was way way over kill. Regardless, the site is a good place to spend some time getting a feel for what is covered on the exam(s).

I was looking at all of the live video for the Annenberg PBS stuff. Wow! One could amuse themselves for weeks or months with all of those video on demand files.

I want to take the four history CLEPS (mostly just to learn the material enough to pass the exams. I don't need the credits), and this looks like a pretty good way to get up to speed. And, of course, free is good if there is some quality component to it.

Yes, after stumbling over the site one evening it was early AM before I realized it. I really like it but, if your goal is to pass exams "quickly" that isn't the resource your looking for! HaHa Information can be very addictive.

I have been studying for the CLEP Social Sciences and History General exam using the Free University Project for several months now. It's not that I haven't felt ready to take the test before now. I just really enjoy the information I'm getting there, and I have watched SEVERAL hours of the PBS videos that are available. The last time I took a practice exam with "Crackin the CLEP", I correctly answered about 80 percent of the questions. Before I started studying with the Free University Project, I got about 40 percent right. It's a good resource, but you have to kind of pick and choose what you study. There is a LOT of info.

    TCord,
That's my next exam, what else are you using if anything? I plan on using Cracking the CLEP and the $6 Ebay guide.

I have used the Free University Project for the bulk of my studies. I have also used "Crackin' the CLEP", and an online textbook for the Sociology portion of the exam. You can find it at: http://www.wwnorton.com/giddens4/chapters/chapter1/welcome.htm

I'm currently studying the Geography portion. I found another online textbook at: http://www.physicalgeography.net/fundamentals/contents.html and course notes at : http://www.harpercollege.edu/mhealy/geg101i/home.htm

After I find a resource for the anthropology portion, I'll go in and sit the exam. I know it's only pass/fail, but I'm leaving nothing to chance. After this I may just take some online math courses and get the math requirement out of the way. There's no way I can self-study for algebra!

    CLEP Social Sciences and History

I took that exam and got a quick six credits with absolutely no study. I just woke up one Saturday and decided to take it since I was getting all of the questions from the CLEP study guide right when I perused it the night before in a bookstore. I scored a 62 or 64 (don't recall exactly). The exam is a bit of a challenge, but it's the one exam that I found powers of deduction to be the most useful. There is an awful lot of eliminating the obviously wrong answers, and then picking from whatever is left. When I finished I was sure I had just wasted by money, and I did way better than I thought.

Well, one thing I have tried to do is not base the apparent ease of an exam by someone else's results. I haven't set foot in a classroom in more than ten years, so if I over-prepare, so be it.

Another issue I have is scraping together the cash to actually go take all of the CLEPs and DANTES exams I want to take, but that's a whole other topic...

Agreed. I read on Bain4weeks.com that the DSST criminal justice exam was a piece of cake for anyone who's watched Law and Order. Not true. Had I not fully prepared for that exam, I'd have flunked for sure.
