    Vision

Sorry; I was thinking about the 2006 Congressional elections, which is the subject matter of my link.

The democrats will not be able to take advantage of the growing discontent in the electorate UNLESS the party develops some vision.

Sorry, thought you were responding to my previous post, ha!

This is the problem with the Dems--no vision. The ones who do have a vision--Lieberman, Bayh, etc.--will never get nominated.

Well, Jimmy Clifton, what say ye now?

Not only did both governors' races go to the Democrats, the races themselves weren't even very close. And the "word on the street" is that the Virginian Republican Kilgore was actually HURT by a special guest appearance by the President.

I remember Nixon. Heck, I VOTED for Nixon in 1972. (Would today, too, hindsight or no hindsight). Even NIXON did not inspire the deepseated HATRED President Bush seems to be inspiring. Oh, we hated Nixon, alright, but he got us OUT of Viet Nam not INTO an unpopular war.

Of course, roughly half the country has hated GWB ab initio. Occasionally his approval ratings rose above the mid fifties, say, after 9/11 when we thought he was going to GET Bin Laden (remember him?) but on the whole, GWB has never done well with more than a SLIGHT majority and often with less.

It's early days, yet, but I smell a BLUE House in the air.

    We'll see.

I will say my predictions were wrong. Remember, both states were already in Democratic hands and the independent Potts drew votes from the GOP in VA.

Nixon was more hated than Bush. I remember the nasty, spiteful remarks said about him. Name one Republican who has said anything similar about Bush as Martha Mitchell and William Saxbe said about Nixon.

Nixon's numbers got down to 24%. Bush will NEVER get that low, I don't think.

Bush also has three years to turn things around and he will. Americans are fickle people. If the economy is good, they like the President, if not, they hate him.

The President has little to do with the economy. Wars, terrorism, natural disasters, etc., are all drains on the economy.

Bush's main problem is that he is allowing the critics a free ride. He needs to get out and make his case. Whether he will or not, we will see.

I find my presidential voting record is very consistent. Voted for three winners since age 18: Nixon in '72, Carter in '76, and Bush in '04. All three have dipped in the 30's (or lower) while in office.

Fair enough. And as for the two governorships, the pundits and pollsters were thinking the same way you were, so at least you were in good company!

Would someone please quote this poll, because I forget which one it was...

I just saw a poll where despite 60% of the country were unfavorable of the President and the Administration, only 6% of American felt very positive about the Democratic party.

So this means that despite Bush & the Republicans are losing ground, the Democrats are not taking it and showing the American people that they're a better choice to run the country.

I wouldprefer if the Democrats won in 06 and 08 by showing the country that they are a better party, not win by default.

I know of no such poll. Pew Trusts has something from mid October 2005 showing that, nationwide, the public likes neither party but dislikes the Democrats less than it dislikes the Republicans.

    Hope that link works!
