Finally completed the last assignments for my MBA from the University of North Alabama. Just waiting on the grades to be posted. It's a good feeling, but I am not sure on what to do with my copious amounts of spare time.

On this journey, I took my first distance learning classes back in 1984 from the local junior college (videos shown on PBS on Sat. afternoons). On the way to my first undergrad, I took distance classes from Bemidji State, the University of Kansas, Moody Bible Institute, and Western Illinois (from whom I received the Board of Governors BA).

After earning a BS in Management and Ethics from Manhattan Christian College (class every Thurs night for 18 months at an extension center), I took a 7 year break before starting the program at the University of North Alabama.

    Congratulations!

Take a moment of that spare time and reflect on what you accomplished. You set a goal that was going to be difficult and you achieved it. Says alot about you!

    Congratulations!

Let me add my sincere congratulations. I know when I finally passed my thesis defense for my MBA it was as if a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. To be honest it was a little anticlimactic, as if the world just continued spinning around me, but my friends and family and these degreeinfo netizens all came together to congratulate me.

    It was worth it.

    Congratulations again.

No significant career changes ahead. The MBA fits nicely into currently path.

    Evaluation:
    • Although the program is not perfect, I am very satisfied with the program. Some classes used DVDs. Some did not.
    • Nearly all professors were very attentive, responsive, and actively engaged the student. Class participation in discussion boards played a large role in grades.
    • Somes classes required tests to be completed within a certain window (i.e. from 6 am on 4/27 through midnight on 4/30). Others were available to be taken at any time during the semester.
    • Several classes had group projects. Some groups were assigned. Others were formed by the class members themselves.
    • All classes have real world applications.
I have two criticisms. First, the program is not AACSB accredited yet. However, this is in progress. Second, I would have like to have a larger selection of electives.
I would recommend the program with reservation.

    What's next?
I have wrestled with the idea of distance learning for law school, but it doesn't appear I can make it work here in Alabama. One of my professors offered an interesting alternative. Why not use distance learning to study for the Certified Legal Assistant exam? Because I currently do proposal, negotiation, and contract management work, this seems like a pretty good idea. An MBA and the CLA would be a nice combination.
