I know the discussion of fema credits and TESC comes up a lot as a way of completing electives. What I would like to know is if I apply for the ASPSS or ASS in Occupational Studies, which Fema Courses fit each category?

For example, the ASPSS lists the individualized Option as three areas:
    Overview of the Option
Basic Philosophy, theory and Concepts of the Option
    Applied Areas

The ASS is a lot more generalized, listing only area of study and free electives. Are there any restrictions if I go this route? Is it possible to utilize Fema credits for all of the required (39) credits.

I'm hoping to save both time and tears.

    Thanks, Rich

I earned my AAS-Occupational Studies from TESC. A total of 27 FEMA courses were accepted. I used FEMA courses to satisfy all 21 hours of the Area of Study (Specialization of Emergency and Disaster Management). The remaining 6 hours were used as free electives.

    Thanks Pug,
A follow-up question, did TESC cap you at 27 FEMA courses or did you only need the 27 credits to complete your program?

TESC capped me. The cap is usually 25 for all degree types, but they'll allow 27 for the Occupational Studiesl/Emergency and Disaster Management option.

    Pug,

How does TESC list your area of study on your transcript? Is it listed as an option, concentration or area of study?

Is it possible to combine two options (i.e. Criminal Justice and Emergency and Disaster Management) as long as I complete the additional 3 credits in the second area, and would both areas be listed on the transcript?

Last question, do you know when the next conferral dates are?

    Thanks Again,

    Rich

I earned the AAS/Occupational Studies degree. You're required to pick one specialization. No, specializations can't be combined. You need 21 hours in one area. To answer your question regarding how the transcript makes reference to the credits, they are listed as a Specialization.

    Hi Pug,

I appreciate the help, I'm afraid I actually asked the wrong question. I did not mean to combine two areas, what I'm interested in is declaring and completing two seperate specializations utilizing the 18 available free electives and then adding an additional three credits to have 21 for each specialization. Similar to having a BA/BS with a dual major.

    Quick Question

    Pug,
By going this way,you didn't need the Advanced Level Practicum?
Sorry, still trying to figure it all out.
    Thanks!

No. TESC will only list one specialization.

No, the advanced level practicum is needed at the BA level, but not for the AAS.
