If only the GOP weren't so determined to make sure poor people don't have food or healthcare.

Yes, his post does mean that. I was wondering how strong his confirmation bias was on this issue. He answered that pretty well too.

One article had the 20 year old’s lawyer saying no one was arrested nor would they be. Now I admit the future prediction part of that statement doesn’t mean much coming from a defense attorney. But the not arrested part is in direct conflict with some reporting and with the idea that there’s any credible evidence of a planned terror attack.

The very little that’s been released about this case already shows the suspects discussed using AK-47s. Sure, it’s not illegal in the U.S. to talk about that — but it’s still a serious red flag.

The AK-47 isn’t just any rifle; it’s a weapon strongly associated with groups like ISIS, Hamas, and other militant movements.

So the real question is — why are they discussing it? Are they just curious about guns, want to recriationaly shoot it, or are they idolizing their “heroes” who use them in terror attacks? That’s some of context a surveillance or counter-terrorism agent is trained to evaluate. You don’t wait for the act itself — you look for the mindset and indicators that lead to it.
Why urgency, the "Pumpkin Day" can be code name for Halloween.
As mentioned earlier, schools get shutdown for less than that.
    Better safe than sorry.

That is a stupid joke. Keep in mind what lying Patel said. It was NOT better safe than sorry. Reread your opening post and the title of this thread. At this point it is 97% likely to just be spreading Patel lies and misleading information.

Better safe than sorry, is what many concerned citizens say.

    Jihad is here????

I really don’t think that means “better safe than sorry “. How does Patel’s lies and misleading statements make us safer?

    You are sticking with that?

That was my first reaction too when I saw the CNN update about the arrests.

Personally, I understand that there’s a lot of sensitivity around increased scrutiny of Muslim communities — especially given what happened after 9/11, when many innocent people were unfairly targeted or stereotyped.

At the same time, I do think authorities need to monitor potential recruitment or radicalization efforts in different parts of the country, including areas with larger immigrant populations, because external actors like ISIS or Iran-backed networks sometimes try to exploit vulnerable individuals.

It’s always a difficult balance — ensuring national security without alienating or profiling entire communities.

Given what we know about past jihadist plots, I admit I tend to be more cautious. When an attack happens, the first question people ask is why the security agencies didn’t stop it sooner — so I lean toward the “better safe than sorry” side.

In my opinion, judging from both past incidents and what we see in other countries, it may not be a question of if but when.

But for now, let’s wait for more details before drawing conclusions.

    CNN -
A cryptic reference to “pumpkin day.” An online chat about an ISIS-inspired attack. A shooting range visit to practice high-speed reloads with AK-47s.
Details of the alleged plot are scarce but two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the case told CNN about the “pumpkin day” reference, the online chat and the shooting range activity.

You continue to conflate and treat two totally separate things as if they were the same.

Having law enforcement vigilant, watchful, suspicious, and aware should NOT be confused with telling lies and misleading statements.

It appears that Kash Patel lied to us at worst and made misleading statements at best. That does absolutely nothing to make us safer. It actually makes us less safe.

    It's not just Patel.

    Let's wait for more info.

I've talked about AK-47s with friends. We may even have been military-age at the time. I was a jihadi and didn't even know it!

Good thing no one mentioned pumpkin day back then or you'd all still be in jail today!

Jokes aside, times change, perceptions change.
Go to a school today, besides the metal fence and added security, metal detectors, police presence etc., see what happens if a kid says they have access to a gun, or less than that, if they find a bullet in a locker room.
What I mentioned as alarm is very logical in the given situation.
So wile I enjoyed the humor and sarcasm, still it's better safe than sorry.

School shootings and terrorism are very serious, which is why we need solid evidence before making any claims of such.

All totally irrelevant to Kash Patel lies and misleading statements. You still seem to be suffering from confirmation bias though. How much longer do you think that will last?

Until proven guilty, they are suspects, noting more.

The FBI says that two men from Michigan − Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud − were part of a larger group that shared ISIS-related extremist materials online and in encrypted chats.

School shutdowns are a result of shootings, if in the past people ignored talk about guns among students, today schools get shutdown if students talk about guns.

    FBI provided additional info:
    Charges filed:
The FBI says that two men from Michigan − Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud − were part of a larger group that shared ISIS-related extremist materials online and in encrypted chats.
According to federal investigators: The group talked about and encouraged terrorist attacks and members bought AR-15 rifles along with large amounts of ammunition.
They held multiple gun training sessions over a period of about three months.
And they also scouted locations in LGBTQI+-friendly Ferndale as possible targets for an attack on Halloween.
After charges were filed Monday, Makled and Bill Swor, an attorney for Mahmoud, declined comment and said they are still reviewing the complaint.

Before making arrests Friday, FBI agents had surveilled them for weeks, even using a camera on a pole outside a Dearborn house, according to the court filing. Investigators also got access to encrypted chats and other conversations and scoured social media posts.

The FBI said it became interested in Ali, Mahmoud and the third person while investigating another man and picking up information on a group call in July that was recorded by a confidential source.

What is the connection between the folks discussed in this article and the 5 males that were in the first part of the thread?

    Correct me if I'm wrong:

Both articles are about the same arrests.
So, the early reports of 5 suspects were accurate in describing the scope of the arrests, although the legal focus narrowed to two charged individuals as investigations progressed.
They describe the FBI thwarting a potential terrorist attack and arresting multiple subjects in Michigan.
The arrests were made on or around October 31, 2025, related to a plot for a violent attack planned over the Halloween weekend.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the arrests and the thwarted attack in statements on the same day.
Both articles refer to the foiled terrorist plot in Michigan and the multiple arrests connected to it, indicating they are the same event.

The first article mentions that the suspects were practicing with AK-47s, but its in addition to AR-15 style rifles during their shooting range sessions.
It references online conversations, including rapid reload practice with AK-47s. The article says they possessed multiple firearms including AR-15 style rifles, shotguns, pistols, and ammunition.
    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5y9qrg4d7ro
The two Michigan men arrested in connection with the Halloween terror plot, Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, along with three other suspects, are all part of the same investigation and events as confirmed by multiple sources including federal court documents and FBI statements. FBI Director Kash Patel revealed five individuals were detained, while only two men have been formally charged so far. The suspects used encrypted communications to coordinate their plans, and the two charged defendants scouted locations together in Ferndale, Michigan, targeting LGBTQ+-friendly sites. The older news and recent reports all align on this being the same case involving the same individuals and arrests. The initial discrepancies in the number of suspects reflect different stages of the investigation, but they are related to a single terror plot foiled by the FBI in Michigan.

Therefore, the two articles referred to, despite some differences in detail emphasis (like mention of AK-47), describe the same overarching event—the October 31, 2025, FBI arrests thwarting an ISIS-inspired terror attack involving these suspects in Michigan.

The only thing that would be incriminating is them having a real and active plan to commit a terrorist attack. I am seeing alot of circumstantial evidence, but most of this can be explained by American’s obsession with gun and paramilitary culture.

It is hard not to see the potential double standard for these brown men with Muslim names conteasted against all those pardoned for J6

From the articles I read, it appears to me that they planned a terror attack, and the recordings, retrieved messages from WhatsUp group etc, will point to planned terror attack.
But the bias card will be played by the defence.
From what I read in my opinion there is strong indication that they were going to commit terror attack. ISIS inspired and the groups they hate.
