On another thread, I meanted the "This Ain't Hell" blog. I went there for the first time in a while and see this post from 3 days ago: Grand Slam – USMC, Officer, Purple Heart, Service Dog : This ain't Hell, but you can see it from here Here's a couple more: Mass. teacher arraigned on stolen valor, false credential allegations Teacher lied about receiving Purple Heart, degrees: Cops She claimed her PhD from Duke was in Child Psych! Thank goodness she was "only" teaching and not trying to get licensed or providing therapy to vulnerable children. The PhD lie was for higher pay, but when her "service dog" bit a student they learned the Wounded Warrior Project who supposedly furnished it had never heard of her.
People tend to believe the claims of other people about their credentials. This is because the vast majority of us do not lie. What kills me is when keyboard warriors lash out at things they don't understand, filling their ignorant gaps with accusations. Just recently I mentioned on another site that despite having served from the mid '70s to the mid '90s, I never received the GI Bill. Instead of asking a question, like "why?", some poster accused me of being a liar and of "stolen valor." Seriously. Simply because that person firmly believes what I said could not be true. However, there was a huge hole in their logic. (I served between the Vietnam-era bill and the Mongtomergy bill. The Montgomery bill wasn't made retroactive until after I retired. I even once went through the process of having the VA verify my (non)eligibility.) I'm sick of internet stupidity. I hope they throw the book at this person.
