  1. The "forum search" function is failing me, although I distinctly remember this topic coming up a year or two ago.

Has anyone had any experience-- good, bad, or otherwise-- taking UNISA examinations at U.S. examination centers? Four or five are listed for the USA on UNISA's web site.

I'm considering a four-unit certificate program, each unit requiring a three-hour written paper.

    Hi Dennis,

I completed a few UNISA exams in DC, at the South African Embassy, and in Norfolk, at ODU.

No problems. You must have your UNISA student ID along with another approved form of identification such as a passport.

See the thread below. I hope to be adding to it again soon.

  3. Charles,

I saw their list of exam centers and the first thing I thought was "Consulates." I'm close to New York or, in a pinch, a reasonable ride to DC, so their listed options are all good.

Thanks for the link. I've somehow trunctuated my search results to the last month.

    Greetings.

I "wrote" one final exam as a TSA student. The "Testing Centre" was the South African consulate located in NYC, NY.

Without question, the least difficult/stressful part of the process was the testing center. There were (surprisingly <g>) few students (approx. 3 total), we were given a spacious meeting room in which to "write" our tests, and the proctor was quite nice.

There was, however, unpleasantness surrounding every other aspect of the test experience. TSA mails out its test permits approx. 30 days before the exam. Mail from SA to the USA can take almost that long to arrive. I'm was quite concerned that I'd be denied access to the test, but I wasn't. I would also abandon any thoughts you might have of driving to the exam (parking spaces are NOT plentiful), and allow for the possibility of traffic delays.

There was also the test itself. I have taken poorly written test before, and I have taken good test before, but my TSA test was the first genuinely "tricky" test I've ever taken. You might want to start your SA education with just one class until you begin to become acclimated to your new institution.

    Good luck!

    Cordially,
    Richard Kanarek

  6. Good information all.. thanks!

I'm looking at the Medicine and Law certificate for personal interest and "mental exercise" reasons. I'll probably take the proferred advice and start with one unit only.

As you have probably already discovered, neither the UNISA website nor any of their various brochures specifies an address for exams in the Los Angeles area. I do not believe this is an oversight. I believe that the testing venue changes depending on a variety of factors such as number of students being tested and current availability of appropriate settings. You can try to contact them directly:
[email protected] although in general the school doesn't really try to communicate well via email. I suspect that you may not be told the actual location until several weeks before the exam.

One more thing. If you do not have a UNISA student number (a free online registration process that must precede any admissions application) then you will be ignored. If you have your number, be sure to include it with all correspondence.

    Good day.
I am set to write my May/June examinations at the South African Embassy in Los Angeles, USA.

My timetable states I should contact the invigilator and let them know that my travel arrangements are in order. The number I was given is for the consulate in LA. Everytime I call the number nobody picks up. At this point I'm really worried as exams are just a few weeks away. I can't get hold of UNISA in South Africa either. Is anyone able to assist me with a number to call?

    Thanks

Hi there. Will you be writing your May/June examinations at the South African Embassy in LA?
I will be as well but I am unsure whether I was given the wrong contact number for the invigilator.
    Thanks

The only number I see is 1-323-651-0902, which I assume you already have.

You might also try calling other South African consulates in the U.S. If any of them pick up, they might know best how to get their colleagues in L.A. to respond.

    Hey,

I recently wrote my exams in denver Colorado at the community college of denver.
I wrote all my exams, however the one module came up as if I was absent (PLS2607) I’ve tried emailing UNISA with the copy that proves I wrote my exam but still no response.

I also received a grade that seems questionable (as if only half of the paper was marked) it was a multiple choice and a written exam and I’m not sure if both parts were received
    (ECS2602)

    Please advise

    Hey Bronwyn

You need to write the examinations section and attach the exam slip you retained ,send to them...
As for the marked sheet and written exam ask for a remark. Note UNISA has all sorts going in every semester, right now they have a strike and all sorts of things being said about the current process of exam marking...
Just make sure you get what’s due to you .
