That sounds about right. And what will happen to them? I'm guessing it will be just about nothing. Just like always.

Well, maybe nothing will happen for the gross incompetence, etc. But, pursuant to jhp's update re, ahem ....irregularities in trading, maybe the SEC might get a few bodies sent to the Bernie Madoff Wing for a few years...

    ...in a few years.

I just looked at the Equifax stock chart. I can hardly believe that after all this bad press, thoroughly deserved, as I see it, it's still trading around $111 a share. It went down from about $140 to the $90s when the news broke - but it's regained quite a bit of ground. Hard to lose value, I guess, when you've got what amounts to a license to print money. But - give it time...

All that data about you is still worth money.

Yes - as Kizmet said, good point. My view: if there was any justice (and there isn't) the whole Equifax hierarchy, with its finger-pointing, stock-selling and blaming one lone sacrificial lamb for ALLEGED lack of vigilance, would be history.

The data is worth money. But Equifax got it from us - for nothing - with no permission. Give it back!

Trans Union and the others - take heed. This Equifax debacle may be the best thing that ever happened to you. Batten down your servers! Secure the premises!

Various people here have said they've paid credit reporting agencies to have their credit frozen, as a way to prevent data theft. I guess it doesn't work too well, when a thief raids the freezer. I've never paid any credit agency a dime - for anything personal. After this debacle, I'm glad - and I never will pay them. They'll never pay us for our valuable info that they got free and then let slip into the hands of thieves.
