Has anyone ever heard of this institution?

I have an F-1 student trying to transfer in to us who is completing her english traning there and she states they do not issue transcripts....only certificates....is that common?

I see they are nationally accredited so legitimacy isn't an issue, I'm just curious if anyone has dealt with them/attended before.

I know that they are one of the few places that are approved to offer CELTA training.

CELTA is the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Aduts from Cambrige Universiy. It is probably the most recogonized and accepted TESOL/TEFL certificate around.

I took the CELTA training at EmbassyCES in NYC. Part of the training is visiting the school's regular classrooms and watchig experienced teachers lead and teach students from all over the world. Most of the teachers were really excellent. The students seemed to learn a lot.

The problem with the school, and most schools like it, is that the students only practice in the classroom. I'd see 8 koreans come in together speaking korean, then leave together speaking korean. I asked them if they watch American movies. They said no. They hang out together and watch korean dvd's. They only hang out with each other and have no english speaking friends to practice with.

So their english wasn't that great even though they were going to classes. But some were better than others I guess it comes down to who chooses to practice outside of the classroom.

The school did have many didn't levels that students had to progress through. Many students weere going there to prepare for entrance into american universitys and for the TOFEL exam.
