Yup, I thought that would happen. I think it was all a publicity stunt... He's going through with it... Really made me think he wanted to "steal the deal" with a lower bid at the very end, but he didn't. Link: Musk offers to end legal fight, pay $44B to buy Twitter (msn.com)
I’m more inclined to think this wasn’t a grand strategy… but his only way to save face with the pending legal issues.
As someone with a Mastodon account (part of the "Fediverse" of alternative social media), we'll surely get an influx of new users with this news, as we did the last time Musk buying Twitter was in the news. https://stevefoerster.com/academic-twitter-is-for-the-birds/ https://mastodon.oeru.org/@stevefoerster
Elon buying Twitter might be bad for me. I think I'm one of the bots Elon is always complaining about. I do only automated postings on Twitter. Uh-oh.
I used a crossposter, so that whatever I post to my Mastodon account automatically also gets posted to Twitter, so I too am a bot.
I saw something saying that Musk's main idea for getting rid of bots seems to be charging people crypto for every post. I don't know how much each post would cost.
Sounds suspiciously akin to the old… they’re about to start charging for each email fear… Granted, when it comes to the Twitter decisions… I’m one who’s inclined to believe’s that Musk is using more of the ‘Lost’ writer’s playbook than some grand intentional strategy…
Back in 2000 I knew some guys who tried to set up an "tollbooth for email" that used e-gold, a precursor to cryptocurrencies.
