    Hi,

    Found this on another board:
    http://www.ncahlc.org/download/_PublicDisclosureNotices/PDN_2903.pdf

In addition, the team recommended that another on-site visit take place by February 2010
focused on agreements and all service arrangements with Cardean Learning Group, an organization with
a financial interest in Ellis. Beyond these recommendations, the team also recommended that an audit
as of June 30, 2009 be filed with the Commission and that a report be filed by January 15, 2010 if the
institution is not approved to participate in Title IV Financial Aid. At its meeting of June 4-5, 2009, the
Commission Board accepted the team’s recommendations without change.

Should I worry about this? Ellis claims it is routine.

BTW my enrollment counselor writes and talks like a high school kid. I find this even more troubling in some ways!!!

    TIA

If you worry about the accreditation for your degree, then you should transfer before too late. However, if they lose their regional accreditation and still have national accreditation. If I am in this situation, it would be too risky and should transfer to most suitable institution.

    Good Luck!

I say get out of Ellis before it's too late. Ellis may pull through fine but why take the risk?

My reading of the cited document indicates the source of concern of "The Commission" arose from the failure of New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) to (1) inform their students of the option to transfer to Ellis University and (2) release said students to Ellis University.

The Title IV issue has been lived out at other institutions including Northcentral University and American Public University System. As far as I know both of these institutions are now eligible to participate in Title IV funding. The upcoming review of Ellis University will determine whether this school can participate as well.

I would not abandon ship just yet. Keep in contact with Ellis University as each accreditation milestone arrives. I remember when American Public University and American Military University were nationally accredited and undergoing review for regional accreditation. There were loud claims from certain members of this forum to avoid these institutions. AMU and APU received RA status.

To add to this as well AMU and APU seem to be well on their way to being THE distance ed university. Some of their programs are what I consider to be very unique not part of the same old school thinking about degree paths. I'm not suggesting that Ellis is like this but it's still something to consider.

If time were not of the essence I would agree with u. Will be mostly done with City by the time Ellis is "safe".
Would have gone with AMU but they won't take the credits.

What does one do with a Master of Policing, Intelligence, and Counter Terrorism?

From what I've read about the program it appears to be a mix of a master's in criminal justice with a focus on terrorism and the counter activities related to defense. It also throws in some focus on high tech crime as well. Unfortunately I had issues with getting the proper loans and funding so I will have to wait until next year. It seems like a very good program though and I fuly intend to consider it next go around.

As to what someone does with the degree I would imagine the federal law enforcement agencies might have an interest in someone well versed in counter terrorism strategies.

Old thread, yes - sorry! But there is new news on the Ellis University accreditation saga. They have "just" gone/going through a show cause hearing with their regional body.

This week the accreditation body asked quite a few Ellis U students to come and talk about the school, they had many faculty members do the same. They asked several questions about the student support services, if they thought the classes were too easy, why they decided on EU and so on. From what the EU students that posted on the Ellis website said was that it went pretty well with most saying "good things" about the school.

Word is the decision as to whether Ellis University will keep their regional accreditation comes in Feb 2011, just a few short weeks.

I hope for every student there that all goes well and they keep it..

    Good Luck EU students!

What you describe is pretty typical of an accreditation site visit. All schools go through a similar process of having various faculty, staff and students interviewed by the on-site peer evaluators. However, Ellis' "show cause" siutation deservs some attention. I would discuss matters with University Officials.

It appears as if they lied to the HLC and have not followed the rules. They also appear to be bucking the HLC by not following its recommendations as well. I bet they lose the Accreditation :(
