Thanks - I'm remembering a bit of it now. Northland was never accredited and those translated degrees wouldn't have meant anything. I completed one semester at Northland myself - I think it was about 1986. Enrolment was handled by ICS Canada and much of the administration was done by them. Coursework was marked at ICS and exams were taken at ICS exam centres. I saw the writing on the wall, bailed after my first semester (despite pretty good marks) and years later, finally enrolled in a real Uni.

IIRC Canadian School of Management was the only school to be struck off the DEAC roster, re-accredited and struck off a second time.

Thanks again for the explanation. I think it's valid for people to have different opinions of different accreditors but one fact remains: For many reasons, RA is not a valid choice (especially for first-time accreditation) for all schools. As we know, even well-funded, well-prepared University of the People chose NA for their initial accreditation and have stuck with DEAC ever since. They now have Candidate status with an RA accreditor.

Not my favourite school, but the people who run U of the people are professionals. They KNOW stuff. They must have had a good reason for their initial NA choice.

And even though people, schools, accreditors and credential evaluators all have their own views regarding RA and NA -- we NEED that choice.

Yes, the RAs might not be best for some institutions, especially early on. But commensurate with that should be an acceptance that degrees from schools accredited by such agencies might not be taken seriously in some situations, and that each person's experience in this area could vary widely from the next.

For some reason, this seems like an à propos time to remark that my favorite Latin motto is aut inveniam viam aut faciam.

Mine, especially when hearing absolute statements about such things: Cum magno grano salis.

"I shall either find a way or make one." Great motto. My personal twist on that is: aut inveniam viam aut falsifaciam. "I shall either find a way or fake one." :)

Or...."Sincerity is a key element of success. If you can fake that, you're golden."
