Has anyone taken the Research Methods in Psychology Exam? What is a good study guide or prep book?

    Thanks.

Try using the Princeton Review Cracking the GRE Psychology Exam
    See http://geocities.com/BA_in_4_Weeks/recommendedbooks.html

And from BA in 4 Weeks Business Degree FOURTH YEAR, we have . . .

    MONDAY
    RCE Business Policy and Strategy
    RCE Research Methods in Psychology

We've already talked about Business Policy, and since you will spend a whole three hours on it, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, the next exam should be scheduled no sooner than 3:00 PM (giving you time to recover and relax). Research Methods in Psychology should take an hour or so to complete.

Research Methods may sound an intimidating exam, but it's not. The work you did for the statistics exam will stand you in good stead here. Use the Princeton review "Cracking the Psychology GRE Exam" to brush up on the requirements. The coverage of this sub discipline in that book may seem sparse, but it contains exactly what you need to know, no more, no less. Ensure you understand all of it (there's not much) and you'll do just fine in the exam. As always, DO THE MOCK EXAM FIRST!

  3. ECE Research Methods

I took the test in 6/2001. It may have been revised since.

The ECE sample exam was a good representation of both the difficulty and makeup of the exam, I think.

Two prior lower-division in-the-seat psychology courses, taken roughly 10 years prior, equipped me for the "research" portion. You can get the same content out of any lower-division text in experimental psychology or social science research methods. The remainder was basic statistics-- likely to be found in the same texts. Really clueless? Try a few chapters from the Cartoon Guide to Statistics (Slotnick?) No, I'm not kidding.

I took this test today and passed with an 'A.' I had checked a couple of books out of the library, but I didn't actually use any to study. Make sure you understand everything on the sample test as it is a very good representation of the material tested. Also, make sure you know what your various statistical methods are used for. I found Research Methods Online Quizes to be a very helpful resource and if you learn everything there, you will have no problems with the ECE.

I would recommend taking statistics before this test to get the most out of what you learn while studying. Oh, total study time was < 1 week and my background is 27 other psychology credits and 3 credits of statistics. I think that this course makes a good capstone, and would recommend taking it last.

How many questions is this Exam? Also - I'm taking it for COSC - it says I need a 40 - what does that exactly mean? 40%, 40 correct, 40ith percentil??? do you get penalized for a wrong answer?
