If that's the advice they were getting from their e-learning consultants, they're probably right not to proceed. Better not to do it than to do it poorly.

Wholeheartedly agree. In fact, it would have me questioning any advice from Cambridge Education Digital (the private consultant).

A lot of universities are going to struggle with this. As I've posted before, there are fundamental differences between in-class and online learning. It really breaks down to who owns the learning process: students (as adults) a la andragogy, or students (as children) a la pedagogy. This requires a huge pivot for instructors, one I have no doubt many simply will not make. They--and the universities behind them--will try instead to replicate the classroom experience online. This is a recipe for disaster.

In university education, three things need to be determined:

    • WHAT is to be learned (learning objectives)
    • HOW it is to be learned (methods)
    • HOW it will be measured (ensuring the learning objectives are met)
It is the second one that must change to adapt to online methodology. I had the pleasure of completing a certification in this very thing last year--a good touch-up and reminder of the distinct differences between the two methods. I wonder how capable universities are to transition their faculties? I'm guessing that, for a bunch of them, the answer is "not very much."

Oh, and because you said it that's all there is to it? Got it. Please allow me to modify my question and suggest to you that it is rhetorical: So what?

Come on Chris, not sure what's in your cereal this morning, but you're either carrying an issue over to this thread from elsewhere or appear to be instigating. It's a Monday morning, pour a bourbon on the rocks and start your quarantine week properly... or just relax a bit... there's been too much drama...

My cereal consisted of cinnamon crunch and milk, nothing out of the ordinary. I then had some cornmeal porridge (yum, yum)... haha! I think it's too early for alcoholic beverages, besides I only drink Hennessy :) Anyway, I have a busy week ahead. So, I'll get back to my writing and stay out of "trouble." :D

So, someone else should not have the last word? Yet you made sure you had the first word and are demanding the last.

If silence is so powerful, why did you depart from it in the first place? Kind of a DB move.

Sounds good, but please go back and see who initiated this.
