  1. Bc Eagles-

I am using Instacert to study for the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Test. If it didnt' help you, that isn't good :)

Any advice? Particular areas to study?

    Thanks

With the exception of THE CIVIL WAR AND RECONSTRUCTION test, I took the following tests with no study at all.

    DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE
    INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS
    HERE'S TO YOUR HEALTH
    BUSINESS MATHEMATICS
    CRIMINAL JUSTICE
    PRINCIPLES OF SUPERVISION
    INTRODUCTION TO LAW
    ENFORCEMENT
    FUNDAMENTALS OF
    COUNSELING
    PERSONAL FINANCE
    HUMAN RESOURCE
    MANAGEMENT
    MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
    SYSTEMS

Just follow the advice from BAin4weeks, if you have a good grasp on the subject matter, then go for it. Otherwise, study the material then go for it. The only tests I haven't passed were those I didn't spend enough time studying for.

It's pretty simple folks, the point of the tests is to reward you for what you've already learned by whatever means. If you don't know it, you don't know it. There is no easy way. (I wish there was)

I got back my results for DSST Org. Behavior, I scored a 53, 3 more credits under my belt ...... I can't get over how many credits I've obtained over the past few months with such little effort. I don't remember much about the exam except that on most of the questions I narrowed it down to 2 correct answers and took a leap of faith. If anyone out there is a little gun shy about testing.....don't be! I'm waiting for my results back from Ethics in America and Mgmt Info Systems. I'll keep you posted! Good Luck and keep testing!

    Awesome!

    Your kicking A#######S, Great job!

Was Principles of Management pretty easy? It's a DANTES test isn't it? I took Intro to Business (DANTES) and passed with a 50, I studied about 30 minutes. I could probably do ok on the Principles of Supervision because I have a lot of work experience, and also because I am a Union Job Steward and deal with Supervisory issues from time to time.

    Let me know, Thanks,

    Abner :)

  7. Passed

Hey guys, I got the results back on two of the three Dantes tests I took. Civil War and Reconstruction I was very worried about...and Drug and Alcohol Abuse I thought I killed it.

I passed Civil War and Reconstruction with a 56. Passing I believe is a 47. I did not think I did well, but I guess I got lucky. I am not a civil war buff nor did I study for over a month. I studied for 3 weeks used instacert and not much else.

I passed Drug and Alcohol Abuse with a 58. Another A grade I believe. I thought I had nailed this one because I knew quite a bit about neurotransmitters going in....I used Instacert and nothing else.

Now, I must wait to get back the results on my Management Information Systems test....Officially, 10 credits to go...Unofficially, 7. (Two exams and that stupid Information Literacy) till my Bachelor of Science from Excelsior.

Will these scores hurt you later on?

It would seem to me that if you're only going for your BS with no further educational aspirations then this would be fine...

It would also seem to me that if you want to go on to Grad school and your College/University Transcript shows "CR" (credit) for the DANTES/CLEP exams you took that the Grad school would also want a copy of your DANTES/CLEP transcript...

I am not that familiar with either yet ( though I hope to have a testing center near by - will find out soon, if not I'm SOL) thus I am asking...

    Thanks

Re: Will these scores hurt you later on?

    Not necessarily.

For Grad school, typically the only transcripts that the grad admissions will request are the one(s) in which degrees were actually conferred. For many grad schools, just having a BA/BS from a RA school with a 3.xx gpa is good enough. Then of course, you may also need letters of recommendation, GMAT/GRE test scores, etc. For my MA, all I needed was the BS from a RA school. Distance Learning experience was helpful, and they even let me conditionally enroll while the BA transcripts were on the way.

HOW you satisfy the individual requirements are mostly irrelevant once you graduate (degree is conferred).

So do NOT worry too much about test scores (unless your school assigns letter grades for higher scores). Concentrate more on finishing up that degree.

For fund. Of counseling I used only instacert. It’s a common sense exam. Study the fact sheet and you will do fine! Good Luck!

What do I need to know to pass Civil War and Reconstruction! Do you remember any of the exam?

    6 more credits!

DSST MIS scored a 54 and Intro to Computing scored a 60. I'm kinda a computer guy so these test were no big deal!

    DSST remaining:

    Principles of Finance

    Money & Banking

    Business Law II

    Intro to world religions

    Enviornment & Humanity:

Any of these easy exams? Any input?

  14. Congrats on your MIS and computing scores.

I'd say that unless you were a serious finance guy you'll find Principles of Finance and Money & Banking to be non-trivial. Out of all of my CLEPs and DANTES exams Finance was the one I scored the lowest on.

Business Law II is also challenging, but if you've taken CLEP Business Law it's narrower in focus (but deeper in materials/case studies).

I heard that Intro to World Religions is fairly straightforward but I have never taken it. I'm sure a search on this board will reveal more to you.

    Cheers,
    Mark

I used instacert, but you can get that info pretty much anywhere.

Know the battles (Who won, where, when, how did the victory occur?

I think the battles are a big part of it...and if you answer pretty much every battle question right, and a few other questions...I think you should pass.

I don’t mean to sound pompous but so far the DSST exams have been relatively easy?!?!? So far I’ve only failed one exam, that’s no bad considering the amount of time (very little) that I’ve put into preparing for these exams.

After I take the following DSST exams I will begin taking CLEP’s

    Money & Banking

    Business Law II

    Intro to world religions

    Enviornment & Humanity:

My question is, will I find that the following Clep exams are as easy?

    Micro

    Macro

    Marketing

    Management

    English Comp

    Analyzing & Interpreting Lit

    Accounting

    Intro to Business Law

    What do you think?

I just took Environment and Humanity and coming out of the test I didn't feel like I did that great. I ended up with a score of 63. My best advice is to study the fact sheets, especially the terms/ definitions. If you get hung up on anything go with what you think the most logical answer is - it worked out pretty well for me.

OK! It’s been awhile but I’m back and ready to take some more DSST exams. I’m going to the test center tonight to order the following exams:

    Art of the western world
    World Religion
    Astronomy
    Human Culture Geography
    Drug & Alcohol Abuse (Retake)

I could really use some help getting motivated to take exams again! Any tips or success stories on any of these exams?
