Dr. Mike Israetel, known as Dr. Mike, is a popular science communicator in the field of exercise science. He has a PhD from East Tennessee State University in sport physiology. He is/was an adjunct professor. Not too long ago, Dr. Mike admitted that he is a race realist, which caused some controversy. He believes that certain ethnic groups, on average, are inherently more intelligent than others based on IQ. He claims to have an IQ of at least 160 based on getting a perfect score on the Raven's Progressive Matrices Test. I don't know if this test was administered by a qualified professional or if he took a free version online. Even taking into consideration that he has ADHD, his dissertation does not read like it was written by someone with an IQ of 160. Not even close. I am not a fan of YouTubers without research graduate degrees critiquing dissertations and theses because they always make incorrect assumptions and don't understand how things work. I can't find much of anything about Solomon Nelson's educational background other than that he has an undergraduate degree, and he applied to law school in Australia. It appears that he has little to no training in research in the natural or social sciences, which would explain why some of his conclusions were dumb. However, he did have many valid critiques of Dr. Mike's dissertation, and I don't think that it is a stretch to say that Mike's proposal shouldn't have been approved, and his committee should have required revisions before passing him. In my opinion, Solomon either has a creepy obsession with Dr. Mike, or he just knows that Dr. Mike videos are going to draw more views than anything else he does. Regardless, Mike probably needed this humbling event. If you're interested, you can watch these videos to learn more about the drama and how Dr. Mike was caught misremembering (or lying) about whether a rough draft of his dissertation was mistakenly uploaded. The first video has a segment on Dr. Mike Israetel that gives a good summary of what happened. The other videos are much longer. Mike Israetel's PhD: The Biggest Academic Sham in Fitness?
