Has anyone here ever earned a double major BSBA through TESC?

I'd like to get a BSBA in CIS and Accounting. I'm coming in with 27 credits through examination. Those credits satisfy 9 Humanities credits, 6 Social Science credits, 6 English Comp credits, and 6 Natural Science credits. I'm not interested in earning any more credits by examination. I plan on completing the online courses for the remaining credits.

If I declare a CIS major, I can take 6 accounting courses (18 credits) and use them as my free electives. If I declare an Accounting major, I can take 18 CIS related courses to satisfy the free electives. Only 18 core courses are required of each anyway.

So, is this even possible? If so, what should I do?

Obviously, I need 150 credits to get my CPA. My state is pretty standard: 30 semester hours in Accounting courses above the introductory level, and 24 semester hours in Business at the undergraduate or graduate level.

If I can't major in both, should I opt for accounting to avoid complications? I don't know how receptive grad schools are to students pursuing an MS/MBA in accounting with a BS in anything other than accounting.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Interesting question. I'm a CIS grad myself and when I inquired about completing a second BS in accounting I never could get a straight answer, eventually giving up altogether. Good luck with it.

I would think grad schools would frown upon going for a MS in accounting with a non-accounting BS, then again if you've got a strong accounting background they may let you in. Probably depends on the other applicants. Would probably be easier going for the MBA, with the right qualifications they'll let anyone in.

UMUC has the grad program that I'm looking for: http://www.umuc.edu/programs/grad/msait/

It's an MS in Accounting and IT. There's a bit of overlap with the grad accounting credits and undergrad accounting courses at TESC, but it would put me at exactly 30 accounting credits above the introductory level.

So I suppose the double major thing doesn't really matter. It would be nice to have it on my resume though.

I've looked at a lot of grad programs in accounting and I've never seen one that specifically requires an undergrad degree in accounting. Generally, each program will have certain prerequisites. These are usually accounting courses but others can be included as well. I've seen MAc/MSA programs require very little in prerequisites. I've even seen one graduate accounting degree program that specifically states that if you have an undergraduate degree in accounting then you will not be accepted in their program (NC State...in case you're wondering). Their program is designed for non-accounting majors who are interested in changing careers. So, to make a long story short, it depends on the school.
