The hurricane disaster is our chance as Americans (I know - some are not from here, but I am generalizing). to show what we are made of. Instead of sending money to a far away land - we can reach out and help our own people. I hope and pray that the SF Bay Area never has to endure what the Gulf region is going through, but I hope that the rest of the country comes to our aid should a disaster ever occur. I received a nice bonus a month ago, and my wife and I were saving for a nice weekend together. We are going to forgo the weekend and my bonus money so that someone else can have a bottled water, and MRI, and a place to sleep. I wrote and email to the CEO and to the Director of HR asking that they employ a matching program (they haven't responded yet). Forget all of the finger pointing and rheoric - we need to come together and stop looking like a third world country in our response to this disaster. Just my two..
I sent a fairly generous (considering my salary) donation to the Salvation Army for the relief efforts.
Here at the Fort Lauderdale campus of Keiser College I'm in charge of student activities (among other things) so I've started a campaign to raise money from faculty, staff, and students. -=Steve=-
Get organizations to help You might also check with your employers or civic clubs, some of them might match donations. I belong to a small, 75 person, SF club that is matching donations from our members to Red Cross. Deb
I'll be setting up a special offering in my parish to go to WELS relief in the area. Can someone who knows what they're doing [not me] post links here to the major relief agencies?
