    Hello all,
I’m searching for a friend of my brother’s who has some questions about a PhD in Public Health/Health Administration online. She is looking at online only programs, if possible.

I found a few programs and I was wondering if I’m missing any. Can someone take a look and let me know? Thanks!

PhD in Public Health- Epidemiology or Community Health Education tracks- Walden
DBA with concentration in Health Services Admin- Northcentral
PhD in Human Services- Health Care Admin- Capella

I also know A.T. Still has a DHSc (I think; something like that) and U of Phoenix has a Doctorate in Health Care Admin., but she stated she’s not interested in those schools. Also, she wanted a B & M school with online degrees, not an online only school.

LOL I know, I know, asking a lot, huh?

She likes Walden but isn't sure about the utility of a degree from there, doesn't mind short residencies, and isn't looking to teach at a university necessarily, although a community college wouldn't be out of the question. She isn't necessarily looking at publishing, either. I guess her long term goals are either to work for the MI Department of Health in Community Ed or Disease Prevention Education.

Would your friend be interested in the Executive Doctor of Science degree in Public Health offered by Tulane University www.tulane.edu ?

Didn't Virginia Commonwealth University www.vcu.edu have some sort of health-related doctoral programs listed in the 2006 Bears' Guide?

From my experience your friend will either not need a phd to work at the Michigan Department of Community Health (I assumed that is what you meant) at low to mid levels, or two will need a degree from a "fancy" school to move into high level managment. There also seems to be a lot of nepitism going on there. I used to work there and that was my experience.

I think the only people with PHDs there were people at least three levels from the top.

The online Doctorate/Masters of Public Health builds on the success and principles of our on-campus programme, providing a foundation in the science and art of public health and reflecting the learning objectives of the on-campus programme.

    Programme outline
The knowledge, skills and attitudes you acquire will enable you to apply public health principles effectively in both national and international research and practical contexts.

Online learning provides intensive interaction and collaboration with public health professionals from all over the world, giving the online MPH a uniquely international approach. Online learning also enables flexible, fully supported learning for busy professionals with a demanding work and personal life. Through the small, virtual classrooms you will combine group work with independent study to develop public health knowledge.

    Programme structure
You take four core modules and can then personalise the programme to meet your own professional needs by choosing from a wide range of specialist options.

Each module lasts eight weeks and it is possible to take a break between modules, if work or other commitments demand it. You take one module at a time in order to study a specific subject in depth without distractions.

The four core modules must be completed prior to undertaking the electives. At the culmination of the programme you undertake a dissertation and produce a piece of original research in an area of public health that applies the new knowledge and experience gained during the taught programme.

The programme is available to any University graduate in a health or health-related profession, and also to non-health graduates and others approved by the University.
