While I don't care for the idea that you can get a doctorate without a dissertation, the opportunity for numerous plant-medicine-based jokes more than makes up for it.

Based on the subject line, I was expecting some funny business, not an offering from a highly reputable university.

Interesting. Strikes me as more of a DVM for the plant kingdom than anything else.

You get a MD or a DVM without a dissertation. If this is the plant analogue to those degrees for humans and animals respectively, it makes sense.

The program is going to be popular because there is an increase in vegans and vegetarians. If you cannot get a job with a DPM degree, you can always be a salesperson at WholeFoods.

You can always get a job as a researcher for the Botanical Garden or for the FDA

I don't think that's what this is about. Although for someone to offer a few courses in plant-based nutrition for physicians and other healthcare professionals wouldn't be a bad idea.

It was created in 1999. This degree is applicable to botany, pest management, agriculture, and forestry. The federal government is always hiring foresters, and the agriculture industry has scientists who research soil health and plant diseases.

Here are the course offerings. This is a real science degree with broad application to in-demand jobs. Maybe some of you are carnivores who never eat fruits, vegetables, legumes, or grains, but most of use are omnivores, and those animals we eat are mostly herbivores and omnivores. Blockchains don't produce the oxygen you need to breathe, and you can't write a code that will rid the trees around your house of pests and diseases.

I wonder how this would work for someone with a Herbalist or a similar Masters of Holistic Medicine using mainly alternative/herbal options. Would this even complement a TCM or something like that...

It's not a human health program. The focus is on soil conservation, controlling weeds, parasites that kill and damage plants, and plant diseases. I didn't post this program in the healthcare subforum because it's neither a human nor veterinary healthcare program.

The curriculum primarily covers botany (plant biology), plant pathology (fungus and bacteria that affect plants), soil science, entomology (the study of insects), nematology (the study of roundworms), and crop science.

Every day we eat plants and never stop to ask them how it makes them feel.

I'll hold out for the emergence of the Doctor of Plant Counseling.

Based on the program title sounds like plant based medicine for human, but looking at the curriculum...I am confused. :D

If you think about Plant Medicine vs Human Medicine vs Veterinary Medicine, it makes it simpler to understand.

Looks like it's plant disease diagnosis, assessment and treatment.
