It sure is -- and it does a lot of damage right here in the city where I live.

I have personal experience with it - once, in a hospital setting. After my heart operation, the nurses were giving me something in an IV. I felt absolutely no pain at any time, but not "high" at all. I asked what I was getting and the nurse told me it was fentanyl. I knew the drug by name, from reading. After a couple of days, it was discontinued and - no pain, no problems. They were careful - and I didn't miss the stuff.

It was different to my one other experience with opioids, synthetic or otherwise. I'd been given meperidine (methyl morphine) during a different hospital procedure 25 years earlier. When I woke up on that stuff, it was party time -- I was happy, couldn't stop talking etc. It felt like bourbon without the hangover.

These drugs have their uses -- but not recreational ones! NO! Me scared...

This kind of sounds like the whole scare around not eating Halloween candy because it might be drugged. As if people are just going around and leaving free drugs everywhere.

Off topic- the title of this thread is written in iambic pentameter.

    Nice!

    ------

EDIT: I'm suffering writer's block in all of my other poetry, but for some dumb old reason, this quatrain in iambic pentameter just came spewing out of my brain:

Do not pick up that folded dollar bill!
Could be a lethal dose of fentanyl!
Your momentary riches lead to ill,
Where blood and guts upon the pavement spill.

    ----

EDIT: This could actually be an effective PSA, now that I think about it.

Yeah -- I guess I could get with the program --- but think about it, before you quit your day job, or abandon your MBA. Just sayin'.

It sure looks like it -- but the article did say the warning came from the Perry County TN Sheriff's Dept. Someone there informed reporters the dept. had found traces of meth and fentanyl on two $1 bills.

Now, would a sheriff or deputy lie? :)

"C'mon. Let's git th' lie detector, Cletus! An' bring th' rope, jest in case!"

Add some geetar-pickin' and banjerin' and a nasal whine - it could be a Country hit -- or maybe Bluegrass. :)

Just so you know - country songs have explored the theme before: A song about "Hillbilly Heroin" - i.e. oxycodone, oxycontin etc.

    Hillbilly Heroin
    Carnal Contempt

    Wasting your time
    Wasting your mind
    Wasting your life
    Watching you die
    Ride the high mental exhilaration
    Responsibility without motivation
    Numbing up hoping for purgation
    Unconcerned about the repercussion
    Hillbilly heroin
    Diluting how to feel
    Hillbilly heroin
    Forgetting what's real
Ride the high on euphoria's wave
Insatiable once its in your veins
    Gluttonous making you a slave
    Impervious stepping into your grave
    Hillbilly heroin
    Diluting how to feel
    Hillbilly heroin
    Forgetting what's real
    Wasted time
    Wasted mind
    Wasted life
    Another one dies
Ride addiction when sticking the needle
Feel the rush snorting up the pills
    Shutting down zombifying your brain
    Another Life forgotten again
    Hillbilly heroin
    Diluting how to feel
    Hillbilly heroin
    Forgetting what's real
