I notice some of the members on the board are military. Anyone know of a good DL MBA program for Active Duty military? Education counselor suggested UMUC, Webster, Park, AMU, and Touro International.

I also saw an add in the Marine Times about Touro w/ it's low (Free w/TA) tuition cost for Active Duty members. Anyone currently going this route?

My MBA alma mater, Univ of Colorado at Colorado Springs, has a distance MBA program. Classes should be the same as the residence program, and those were pretty good when I went through (grad 2000). Price is pretty steep for TA, though - looks like it's currently $460 or so an hour. You might could swing it with TA and the GI Bill Top-up, if you're eligible for that. Still, that's high - it was about 200-230 an hour when I went through the campus program. I guess it's that inflation thing they mentioned. :D

I am just finishing up my udergrad degree but plan on starting my masters this January. My case is I want the best education while minimizing my out of pocket cost. UC Colorado Springs is a good choice, as is UMASS, UW@Whitewater, and a list of many others can be found by searching this forum. In everycase, you will have to use your military tuition assistance and your GI Bill Top Up, and in some cases if you run out of TA for the fiscal year you can use the GI Bill while on active duty, both of which I have had to do, I ended up using about a year of my GI Bill, fortunately I still have around 26 months or so in benefits remaining, enough to help cover the cost of a good MBA program. BTW, if you don't mind taking out loans, Drexel and Suffolk seem like good programs too but you likely will have to finance some of the program.

About 2 years ago there were several active duty personnel going to Tuoro. You might wasnt to do a search on Tuoro and look at the posts from 2001 amd 2002.

    How about Liberty University? Thoughts?

*I'm still leaning towards UMUC. I still can find a program quite like it for my work and more importantly family schedule. Check out this website I found:

    http://www.mba-center.net/en/Magazine/?artId=11762&rId=181

It's "an interview with Michael Evanchik, Associate Chair of the Office of Executive Programs, UMUC Graduate School"

What do you all think of the interview?

    kobeb,

I have just completed my 6th and 7th classes in Liberty University's MBA Program. Every class has been a challenge. The format at Liberty has recently changed to an online format.

I highly recommend Liberty's MBA, especially if you have a Christian worldview. No particular worldview is required to participate, but all of my classes have been presented from a Christian perspective. My professors have been so forthcoming and responsive that I feel that I have a personal relationship with every one of them.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

    O or E

If you are an officer, you can maximise your transfer credit with Touro if you've done SOS, DL ACSC (air Force perspective, the other services have equivlent levvels of PME). I think AMU offers good transfer value as well. A Major I worked with (now Lt Col) did only 8 courses with Touro and got his MBA with a concentration in military managment.

If you are an E like me, you will probably have to do all the coursework, so look at all your options. From my experience, grad school gets done faster if you do classes with the base, if possible. the best program woudl involve a mix of in class with DL options, like UMUC, Webster, OU, etc.

Touro has free (e-books) books (so does Ashworth if you don't need RA) and that is a substantial savings. I spendt an average of $140 for each of my classes after TA.

    Good luck

Also, Excelsior is rumored to be debuting a MBA, it might be military friendly.

I am active duty U.S. Army and opted for the Touro route.

Good program, good TA system, good deal for military...

What are you wanting to do with it?

Is this to advance your military career? If you are staying in, Touro works very well with the military. They will go out of their way to work with you. UMUC may be good as well with their long history of working with the military. Someone here may be able to advise you on them.

However, if you are wanting to get out and with expect your degree to do something for your marketability , I would look at something AACSB attached to a brick and mortar. Nebraska-Lincoln or UMass-Amherst are good and less expensive alternatives than some others in that category.

We all get out someday. Plan accordingly.

I must agree with airtorn, get the best education you can afford, especially with uncle sam picking up all, or at least most of the tab. I'd recommend a school that people will recognize, because sooner or later you will move into the civilian sector. In my opinion, people are more acceptable of degrees from schools they recognize or have a physical campus. Good luck.
