Has anyone tried/heard of an attempt to do this? I got this off the Chapman University Law site. Would this apply to CA DL schools - are they really "state accredited"? Are there states that actually accredit non ABA law schools?
State Bar of CA doesn't accredit DL schools. The schools are merely registered with the State Bar so the graduates can take the CA bar exam.
There are four types of law school in California: (1) B&M schools approved by the ABA; (2) B&M schools approved by the California Bar Association, but not the ABA; (3) B&M schools not approved by CBA or ABA; (4) DL schools not approved by CBA or ABA. Chapman apparently will accept transfers from (1) and (2), but not (3) or (4). Graduates from (1) and (2) qualify for the bar exam in California, although graduates of (2) may not qualify in other states. Students at (1) and (2) are normally exempt from the preliminary FYLSX screening exam, which is required for students at (3) and (4).
