Does anyone know if UC berkeley ext courses can be transferred for credit to another college. Are they CEU courses ?

Some UCB extension courses are for college credit and are transferrable to other schools. Some courses offer CEUs and they are generally not transferrable (although they could be used as part of a prior learning portfolio). I earned 3 units from UCB extension in chemistry and Excelsior accepted them.

I think you'll find that by using the search feature here, many (most?) of us have taken an assortment of DL courses from all types of universities/colleges. In my case, I have taken DL courses from 7 (or is it 8?) colleges including Harvard. The results are that each COURSE differs in rigor, each TEACHER has the authority to be anal or passive in grading, and the text used probably makes the biggest difference as far as scope of content. Additionally, what makes a class "hard" for me, is likely different from what makes a class "hard" for someone else. I like writing-intensive courses, like those offered at Harvard. I hate the quizzy-fizzy courses where you take instant graded mc exams until you're blue in the face. I find those frustrating (mainly because people stink at writing exams). Anyway, I don't get the point of the experiment. I'd argue that 2 people (perhaps her and a friend) could complete the same sequence and still have different observations.

There really isn't criteria that can be universally applied to all schools.

P.S. For the rest of her life, she'll have to include transcripts from 5 schools every time someone somewhere asks for official transcripts. That's not only expensive, but pretty annoying to do. Just my two cents.

I agree with Cookderosa. I think you are wasting money unless there is something unique about the high prestige courses.

This has not been my experience. I took courses at 12 colleges (plus one CLEP) for my Excelsior degree. Apart from having 12 transcripts sent to Excelsior no one ever asked for them again. Both CSUDH and ERAU just accepted the Excelsior transcripts (which lists the origin of each credit). Then a local community college was satisfied with the three college transcripts when I interviewed for an adjunct position.

...as this thread is from 2005, he would already have wasted his money... though an update to see if she went through with the 'experiment' would be great :)...
