The LLD from U of South Africa looks like a good program. However I don't see a degree from South Africa being much use to someone living in Canada. I have two friends that work in HR departments for two major Canadian companies. They both told me that if I am going to be getting a degree from a university outside of Canada to sick with schools in the US, UK and Australia. Apparently a degree from other countries would not be looked at as equal to a Canadian degree by the HR department of the companies they work for.

It does not surprise me that there are people who would maintain that a South African degree is not the equivalent to a Canadian or US degree. It is not clear to me, however, whether this is a matter of fact or a matter of prejudice. This would be especially true in the case of an LLD program. After all, how many HR professionals could even articulate the distinction (assuming that there is a distinction) between an Australian LLD program and a South African LLD program? Beyond all that, the UNISA program remains an option for those people who can not utilize the alternatives for some reason (such as cost). Even if there is a bias against the UNISA LLD program in the minds of some people it may still be better than giving up on the goal entirely.
