Would someone please set the record straight after the disinformation about Western Governors University on the "8 Day Degree" thread?

To the best of my or anyone else's real and honestly presented knowledge, there is only one WGU and it is legitimate.

Dragging WGU into a discussion about the absurd Almeda is dezinformatsiya. Defaming a responsible poster is one thing; casting aspersions on an entire university quite another. What lame and unmeant denial will successfully excuse this latest dose of bosh?

The socially responsible thing is not to tolerate disinformation.

Another desperate attempt to discredit me or my comments about Yahoo advertising.

UJ why don't you email or write to WGU and ask them why are they advertising and paying money to be listed among these schools

    http://dir.yahoo.com/Education/Distance_Learning/Colleges_and_Universities/Credit_for_Prior_Experience/

It appears that WGU listed as I stated in my post among the 25 less than wonderful. Call it last chance for prospective victimes
to be informed about legitimate option such as WGU, especially
when they are listed # 1.

Gregg had no problem understanding my post after his comments about Yahoo.
And most likely most readers, the only reader that didn't see it was the one who is in my opinion desperately trying to discredit me.

The discussion was not only about Alameda but also about Yahoo
    advertizing policy.

Well its WGU choice to be listed there and they are paying Yahoo for that or maybe some mills are paying to advertize WGU there, I don't think they will advertize legitimate competition.

    Muy bien Tío,

Abrir un tema nuevo para evitar discutir con el duende. Desafortunadamente el duende nos persigue. Espero que el duende sea exterminado pronto en este foro para que todo vuelva a la normalidad.

No one has to do that dude. You do such an excellent job all by yourself that you don't need help from anyone else.

Actually, it was Cato that always ended his speeches with "Carthage must be destroyed."

No, I think it was "cartilage." "Cartilage must be destroyed."

    He had arthritis, you see.

That was even lamer than my original effort.

I truly didn't think such a thing could be possible!

One beautiful thing about the English language is the amount of words available to describe small mythical creatures. You have elves, dwarves, trolls, fairies, leprechauns, etc. In Spanish we only have the word “duende”. Which makes for some very clumsy translations of “The Lord of the Rings”.

To set the record straight for all those reading these threads:

WGU most definitely IS a legitimate institution of higher education!

Western Governors University was launched with the aid of a United States Department of Education grant, and full support of numerous prominent organizations. Originally founded by 19 state governors (including former Texas Governor, now U.S. President George W. Bush), and is the only university of its kind to hold accreditation by four of the six USDE and CHEA recognized regional accreditors, as well as one national accreditor. WGU has agreements and partnerships with colleges, corporations, and school districts throughout the United States. It is approved to offer its students Federal Financial Aid, and also has several scholarship programs in place for those pursuing a career in education. Graduates are eligible for a number of professional licensures including teacher licensure in states throughout the USA.

If there is any additional speculation on WGU’s legitimacy, please refer to their site for answers:

    http://www.wgu.edu/

Or, do a search using any common search engine.

Not that I could ever hope to correct Unk on anything, as he has corrected my Latin at times, but in the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales John Vernon's character uses the expression, "Don't p___ down my back and tell me it's rainin'"

You are quite right, Dave. Movies bore me, so I didn't know the quote, and it is clear that you have hit the motherlode. The later version I had seen was by Judge Judy (Sheindlin?).

And after all did anyone bother to check this link and to say you know Lerner/Learner they do seem to be the only legitimate school on that list.

    http://dir.yahoo.com/Education/Dist...ior_Experience/

And that you Lerner/Learner didn't really lie or disinform anyone but noted a fact.

I was sarcastic when suggested to two WGU's because of the unfavored Yahoo advertising tread.

WGU is one of kind and fully recognized Nationally DETC accredited and Regionally Accredited University.

Anyway truth speaks for it self.

No its not raining maybe diapers can help? :)

The truth does speak for itself.

As I read the original pisser, Lerner/Learner did indeed infer that WGU might be viewed as less than wonderful.

Nope. He said it was "legitimate," that a reader might get the impression from the less-than-wonderful context that there might be another WGU that was less than wonderful, entailing that there is at least one WGU that is not less than wonderful. There being only one WGU, by implication it is the not-less-than-wonderful one.

Any posts originated by Learner must be taken with a grain of salt. First, his dominance of the English language is not first-class. Therefore many of his posts are vulnerable to misunderstandings. Second, sometimes he bases his posts on incomplete research and what are obviously not well thought out arguments. Finally, I believe that sometimes cultural differences may interfere with the clarity by which he expresses himself.

I think he is slowly getting the hang of things and that his posts are, if nothing else, mildly amusing. We should be patient with the guy. He at least is trying.
