    You aren't.

Anyone who meets the legal qualifications for a position can run for it. You get "idiots and maniacs as candidates" because people vote for them. Trump got on the ballot because he was eligible to run. Later, millions of Americans all over the country voted for him in primaries, and enough voted for him in the general election to make him president.

Staying with Trump, the voters had two opportunities to "weed him out": the primaries and again in the general election. In 2016, they did not. In 2020, they did.

The US Constitution describes the requirements to be president. Everything else is left to the discretion of the voters. What mechanism would you propose to alter that?

This assubes that a Twitter comment section is representative of anyone. Which is, at the very least, not the case.

I disagree with Cory Bush's inflammatory leftist language, but she has a point on substance here.

Cori Bush should not have said what she said, IMHO. Although what she said was not racist. She said that Donald was a prop. This is an indisputable fact, is it not? All of the names Republican nominated for speaker not named McCarthy were props. Plain and simple props. They were nothing more and nothing less than just someone not McCarthy, just props plain and simple.

Now regarding Cori's assertions about the Republican party supporting policies that perpetuate white supremacy, This is the part she probably shouldn't have said. I say that for the obvious reason that it changes the subject and opens an ugly can of worms, which it obviously did. Now I'm not really interested in getting into the details but I believe there is truth in her assertion though. Which is probably what Stanislav is alluding to above.

In the case of Trump for Speaker, one can argue that the mechanism would be to invoke 14h Amendment, section 3. But I get your point.

I just wonder...how gullible are the Freedom Caucus members? They absolutely do not trust McCarthy but once he's ensconced in the Speaker's Chair getting rid of him might prove...difficult. One disgruntled member can call for his removal but it will take a majority to actually accomplish it. McCarthy could go back on every promise.

Well I suppose they know what they are doing.

Alas, she was indeed reelected in a squeaker.

I'm still willing to put my money where my mouth is on Trump being Speaker, though.

Looks like McCarthy has it. Of course, he had to agree to mow Matt Gaetz's lawn each week to get it.

I think that the agreement was for McCarthy to mow Matt Gaetz's lawn every other week because he has a few lawns to mow.

A Near Brawl Breaks Out In Congress Last Night!

    Recap on last night's events
So they voted late into the night at 10 pm, which McCarthy lost by one vote. McCarthy then went over to Matt Gaetz. Matt Gaetz said some heated words and started pointing his finger at McCarty, then another member moved towards Gaetz, and another member quickly grabbed him by the face to hold him back.

Next, they voted to adjourn till next Monday, and the vote ended in a tie at 217 each. Before the vote was finalized, all of a sudden, 30+ people lined up to change their vote to no.

The 15th vote was held to elect a Speaker of The House. The remaining holdouts voted present, and McCarty won with 216 total votes, which is less than 1/2 of congress.

Even though our political process is messy, don't worry because:
Americans will always do the right thing

Here's a piece of an interview that I thought relevant to the thought.

As I've said a number of times, my parents were racist. They taught me to be racist which I was until the age of 16 or 17 when I made friends with a some black kids. My parents told me that blacks were not as intelligent as whites but were better athletes. They didn't think that they were racist. I believe that most racists don't know that they are racist. I used to guess that maybe somewhere around 5% or 10% of Democrats were racist and double that for Republicans. After Trump and Trumpism I'd now guess it's much more than that, especially in the Republican party.

The important part of the above video is that Harry said prior to his relationship with Meghan he didn't notice some of the racist things going on. Most of that stuff is what is called "systematic racism". It means racist policies or situations in our society. There can be systematic racism existing without racists actively pushing it. It is just kind of left over from a racist past. These racist Republican policies that Cori was referring to are primarily of the systematic racism type things.

Pretty sure it's "systemic" though. Problem is, it's expressed in poli sci jargon that flies directly over the head of people and which bad faith actors on the Right are all too happy to misconstrue. Kinda like the more egregious example of "defund the police" slogan.

Representative Bush could state that she had endured far worse rhetoric, as a POC female politician and especially once someone decided to demonize the Squad. LevelUP, who's probably not even a propagandist, straight up called her "racist" with zero support and transparently flawed appeal-to-the-mob argument (comment section on Twitter? Orlly?). Yet see how she "shouldn't have said that" and he gets the pass. Even though she arguably tells the truth, and he arguably doesn't.

I have to agree with you there. LevelUP's assertion about Corci being a racist was just silly IMHO. I explicitly stated that she had not said anything racist. On the other hand, LevelUP is a poster on this forum and so I do try in such situations to not be insulting. I believe this reaction of calling folks racist when they haven't done anything to warrant such a label seems to be a very common Republican response. I hasten to point out again here that Corci did not call Donald or anyone else racist in her post. Anyway my last post was an attempt to maybe get LevelUP to do some self reflection but he probably won't even read the post.
