She was such a strong icon of hope and stability.
I can't imagine a United Kingdom without her.

She did so many good deeds for the UK and the Commonwealth.

Perhaps it's just because this is such a polarized era, but the reactions I see seem mixed between those who thought she was saintly and those who thought she was a modern day Leopold II.

Of course, as usual with strong opinions about famous people, none are from people who actually knew her.

    Either way, RIP.

I think the mixed reactions have a lot to do with the fact that Diana's energy still overshadows the British monarchy.
Personally, I never blamed Elizabeth II for that negative feeling of disrespect from the monarchy to Lady Di.
I find it highly saddening that Camilla, the homewrecker, will be Queen-Consort though.
From a strong woman who reigned Britain with lots of dignity and honor, to an adultress who will be taking her place.
Diana turns in her grave if she saw Camilla ascending the throne.
I had hoped Charles would be skipped and William would take his place.
Kate is a woman with dignity. She would have been a great Queen.
Camilla will always be the mistress. The shame that surrounds her will never fade. People will never forget that she started out as a dirty little secret.
Good thing is that Camilla is already 75. Just playing the waiting game there and the people will finally have a decent Queen again with Kate, in hopefully less than 2 decades.

You're entitled to being a fan of Camilla of course.
    I'm just stating facts here.
The tampon tapes in 1992 are published proof.
I will never condone adultry. Once an adulter / adultress, always an adulter / adultress.
Camilla and Charles started out as a dirty thing.
The dirt has still not been cleaned. It will never be.

Shocked? I'm not sure anyone is truly shocked. Did no one see this coming? It's been a subject of conversation for decades.

I'm a fan of the monarchy. I'm hopeful Charles will make substantive improvements to modernize (and streamline) it. He still has major issues with immediately family to contend with, however.

As for Camilla, she is now queen. The wife of the king is queen, period. He became kind the moment the queen passed. The palace may try to soften this by calling her the "queen consort," but this is unnecessary from a technical perspective. It just points out that she is not queen regnant, but that is obvious because there is a king.

The palace may try to avoid this altogether by continuing to refer to her as "duchess" (if Charles assumes a duchy after passing Cornwall to William) or even "princess." But she is, indeed, the queen.

It is not surprising but it is still shocking.

We knew it was going to happen but it's still a loss of a figurehead of stability in a world that is anything but.

My native Canada and many other countries in the Commonwealth have some reckoning to do.

Larry the Cable Guy: My grandmother just passed away, 104.

Flower store clerk: Ooh, 104? How'd she die?

Larry: How'd she die? She's 104! She wrecked her Harley up here at Bike Week.

Yes, because that's the only reasonable conclusion to draw from what I said.

You're not just stating facts. You're taking unflattering facts about people you don't know and troweling on your own opinion and judgment.
