Hello, Is there anyone here studying for the DBA program at Heriot Watt University? Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. I just registered for the first course and I am not sure what to expect. Thanks
Don't know of anyone here who has matriculated there for the doctorate. There is a forum out there I believe for people in the program. From what I've heard, typical research-based Euro doctorate, academic-type, research methodologies emphasis, not the usual U.S. DBA (which is as likely as not to be from a practitioner perspective without the heavy research emphasis). Only U.S. academic whom I know of who has a DBA from EBS is Bruce Bellner from Ohio State. Don't know him, but if you want more info, might shoot him an email.
Thank you for the response. You are correct, the program has three courses aimed to research skills. I had a few US schools in considerations, but I decided to go for HW....hope it was the right decision, because I am not sure yet. From my research it is a good university and ranks well. Thanks.
It is a good university, solid name recognition internationally, fine B-school, very good accounting, elite economics, though not so much known in the U.S.--but in the U.S., as self-obsessed as we tend to be, unless it's Oxford, Cambridge or LSE, it seems no one has heard of it.
There are a few people here that have been in the EBS DBA program. They don't check in so much anymore. I've been through the MBA program as both a DL student, and then I transferred to the full-time on-campus program in Edinburgh, so I can tell you that Heriot-Watt and EBS are great institutions with faculty on par with any top business school. I can't speak to the DBA program specifically, but just from looking a their program and comparing it to my doctoral experience at UF, I can tell EBS put a lot of thought into their DBA. Unlike other universities that already had on-campus MBA and DBA programs, and then tried to cash in on the distance learning craze by throwing a few videos and powerpoint slides on the internet, EBS's programs were built from the ground up as DL programs.
