There is an interesting article in the current issue of BizEd magazine about this. “The Business Case for Analytics,” by Hugh Watson (professor at UG Athens). (BizEd is AACSB’s magazine.) The article discusses the rise of analytics-based firms, skill sets and mindsets, and developing college curricula in analytics. The article also discusses various online sources such as Teradata University Network (TUN) as well as various colleges with analytics’ related degrees programs…North Carolina State, Louisiana State, Univ of South Carolina, Northwestern, Arizona State…

It's as though you read my mind, although I'm not sure how big this market would actually be and how you would even search for this information.

I came across an interesting article that touches on this topic.

I found this site. I believe one of the authors of the above article may be connected with it:
The Salathé Group - Measuring and improving health outcomes with basic research, mobile technology and social media.
also this: Main Page - mmed
and this: The Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MSEB) : Program in Public Health: Feinberg School of Medicine: Northwestern University

There's lots out there. It would seem nowadays that a knowledge of data science has necessarily become an integral part of epidemiology. Then again - it probably always was, but the science has evolved a great deal.

Thanks. I am curious how valuable the data would be in Epidemiology. The flow of data across social media would make it easier to track the spread of infectious diseases in real time. Verifying that data is where a potential roadblock remains, but it's still a very promising field it would seem.

If only I had seen this before I started my master's degree. While I have taken some Epidemiology courses, I would have to find a grad cert that would specifically address the field of data mining. I guess this would be the same for anyone already possessing a master's degree and would be considering a jump toward becoming a data scientist. I'm still hung up on nursing at the moment though, although this one is very intriguing. :smashfreakB:

I note that medical researchers are included in the "who should apply" list for the Stanford Certificate. I didn't check that detail for the others, but I figure medical researchers are a likely audience there, too.
