Dante Fund. of Algebra Vs. Clep Algebra or Clep College Algebra

I am desperate need of advice. I am taking the Dante Fundamentals of College Algebra and just found out there are two other options: Clep Algebra and Clep College algebra. Does anyone know which of these are the best option for me...I am REALLY rusty in this area.

Actually there's only one CLEP Algebra. So your options are DSST Fund. of Algebra or CLEP College Algebra. The link to the military passing rates isn't working anymore. These were the passing rates listed on another site, so I can't guarantee that they're accurate (and military passing rates aren't the most accurate thing anyway, but hope this helps you:

DSST/Dantes: 12%
CLEP: 17%

So, obviously neither is super easy. I think you're going to have a hard time finding someone who has taken both of those, though... I guess unless they failed one and then took the other.

Ohhhh then I can help you! Definitely do CLEP mathematics!!! It was super easy. I'm not a math brain at all, but with a little refresher on probability, I was golden. If you can predict probability, read a graph, and work out a logarithmic function (or whatever they're called, I forget), then you can probably pass this test with flying colors. I used the REA study guide, and filled in occasionally with the CliffsQuickReview Algebra II guide (which was a higher level than I actually needed for the test). If you're no math person and just need the credit, CLEP Math is definitely the way to go!!!

Bad News

The college will not allow the college mathmatics, but they will however accept the Dante Fundamentals of College Algebra or the Clep College Algebra.
Now, I am back to square one. I am not sure which one I should take?

the CLEP doesn't show any exmple questions, but I'm sure they're about the same

I'm pretty sure with CLEP your actual grade on the exam doesn't matter
anything above 50 is a Pass
anything under 50 is a Fail

Some schools have specific requirements on the scores, beyond whether they accept the test or not.

For example, here's Fort Hayes State University's requirements.
CLEP
DSST

Most schools' will have what they accept, as well as minimal scores on their websites. You can also talk to your advisor/counselor/admissions office to find out any limitations or minimal scores.

As far as Areed2631's question, I've heard that the College Algebra CLEP is moderately hard unless you're a math wiz, and I've heard that the DSSTs are usually more in depth.

You can check and see if your school accepts ACE approved credit, and if they do, you could take an ALEKS course for it. Just note that you'll likely have to put multiple hours into it (50-125) to get through it, but its good if you want to/need to learn it.

I haven't taken the either of the College Algebra tests. I have taken College Mathematics (and hated it, but passed) and used ALEKS to get credit for 4 classes (Int Algebra, Trig, Intro Stats, & Stats for Behavioral Sciences,) because my school accepts the ACE credit.

 

Out of the two, I didn't notice any difference. They covered almost the exact same material. I took the DSST primarily because I missed passing the CLEP by two points. I failed the DSST by 5 points, which lends itself to the argument that the DSST is more difficult. It also lends weight to the fact that I suck at math no matter how you look at it.

I've put together a few study guides for each, but I ended up going through ALEKS for my Algebra requirement. If all else fails, that's another option for you.
