Purdue University Northwest, Hammond, IN Approved the institution’s request to offer the Doctor of Technology in Technology. (CIP Code: 15.9999 / Program Level: Doctor / Credit Hours: 90) "The D. Tech. is the first degree of its kind in a tier-one research university and is 100% online." https://polytechnic.purdue.edu/degrees/doctor-of-technology
Interesting. This article about the first graduate indicates it is the main Purdue Campus in West Lafayette. Also interesting, there is already a graduate apparently in 2021 from the program. https://polytechnic.purdue.edu/newsroom/for-purdues-first-online-doctor-of-technology-grad-flexibility-learn-wherever-whenever-was
This is a good find here. I will request more info from Purdue and see if I could get this funded through a graduate assistantship, fellowship, or my job despite my already unofficial PhD. It may be my new project in 2 years or so considering it is from a tier-one school and can be completed online in three years or less.
This is a 90 credit program, about 1 grand each credit, a max transfer of about 30 credits. So, at the least, a cost of $60K for a tier 1 doctoral degree, it's not a bad find at all. Someone should ask "what credits" can be transferred in... I really wonder if there is a significant drop in price if someone can get that assistantship or TA, fellowship, or any other scholarships of some sort... very appealing to say the least!
I thought the degree was out for several years. I applied but realized I wanted a Ph.D., so I closed my application.
Okay. I see the error. I think. This seems to be Purdue University Northwest, which is different from Purdue University (West Lafayette). Correct??
https://www.pnw.edu/purdue-university-northwest-begins-enrolling-students-in-doctor-of-technology-program/ "Purdue University Northwest (PNW) recently gained approval from the Higher Learning Commission to begin offering a Doctor of Technology degree. PNW’s Doctor of Technology, which will be offered through the College of Technology, is the university’s second applied doctoral program and will begin enrolling students for spring 2023. The new program joins PNW’s Doctor of Nursing Practice. PNW also is in the process of developing a Doctor of Psychology degree program."
They do not have any assistantships, scholarships, or fellowships at this time for the Doctor of Technology program at Purdue. I just wanted to let everyone know that as an enrollment counselor just responded after I made an inquiry about it.
Yes, it looks like Purdue Northwest will have their own Doctor of Technology program. The one at Purdue West Lafayette has been up and running for a while. Which explains why there is already a graduate (lol). Dang, this whole Purdue situation is getting more and more complicated. Purdue - Purdue Northwest - Purdue Global. My head is spinning. How about a "Doctor of Purdue University-ing"?
Is there a publication requirement for my dissertation? Yes, all DTech students are required to write and submit a research paper to one of the following sources: a refereed (peer-reviewed) journal, a professional trade journal, or a refereed or reviewed conference proceeding.
For the price would make a move from the University of the Cumberlands to Purdue University if the program is Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Honestly, outside of academia, Doctor of Technology (DIT), Doctor of Science (DSc), Doctor of Engineering Science (DES), Doctor of Engineering (DEng), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), etc... are not well-known as Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).
From the time of submission to publishing, it could take several years (at least for social science). It's not realistic to require publishing to graduate.
Also, only a very small portion of submitted papers get accepted initially. Majority is reject and resubmit.
